Get your students hands-on with this is a laboratory activity that will enable them to study cellular respiration in lentil seeds! Tested in a Science contest the school-made respirometer that is very easy to assemble using everyday materials. My students were excited to use the respirometer to actually record data and make calculations in this biology experiment. The aim of this activity is to encourage the students to read food labels in order to collect and analyze nutritional information and have them think critically about the products they buy for food. It is suggested for implementation in 7 and 8th grade. As a first step, discuss with your students about the food pyramid as a tool for recording and assessing their food choices and then use the nutritional information worksheet to practice data collection from food labels and promote informed nutritional choices.
