This packet is designed as a review for new Spanish II students at the beginning of the year. Each verb has boxes for conjugation, detailed notes for usage with specific examples and a few practice exercises at the end of each section. There is also a list of commonly used expressions with TENER. After all 3 verbs are presented, there are 50 simple sentences where students choose the correct verb from context clues. This lesson works best for students who have already been exposed to the material, as either a review or remedial for extra practice, but could also be used as a homeschool lesson on these three basic but necessary verbs.

This project is best suited for first semester French students or young learners, and is designed to create an awareness of the presence of French on items everywhere in our daily lives. Download includes directions for project, grading rubric and a blackline master of artifact sheets you can copy en masse for your students to archive their findings. This project is meant to be completed outside of class, I recommend several interim due dates within the first semester to hold students accountable to making progress with their project.

Four practice worksheets for irregular preterite verbs: 1) decir and traer 2) tener, andar, estar 3) poder and poner 4) irregular preterites Also included is an in class activity that works well after a weekend or the upcoming Christmas break to get students asking questions of their peers in the preterite. Activity takes 15 minutes to run in class. There never seems to be enough practice for these verbs, so here are a few more.

This fun reading activity is designed for level II of higher Spanish students who have already seen comparisons and stem changing verbs. Students read through two columns of choices and mark their preferences on a cute diagram to determine if they are more "left brain" or "right brain". Good activity for a sub plan, or as a reading practice. Afterwards students can compare their drawings with friends or you can divide up the class to see who is more left or right.

I use this as a reference card for students when we start Preterite VS Imperfect. It covers formation of the tense in regular and irregular forms with a few practice examples, then provides a list of "buzz" words to help students identify when to use imperfect, on the back there is a detailed use of reasons for usage of the imperfect with lots of examples so students can see the tense in context. I print it up on green card stock and give it out as a reference. My students tell me that they have saved these cards and used them again when they went to college! Very helpful.

Students never seem to get enough practice with interrogatives in the text book generated materials. These practice pages give an introduction to the different ways to form questions in Spanish, to answer questions negatively and positively and to practice selecting the correct interrogative to complete a question. Four pages of different kinds of practice with question words. These work best when students have already been working with interrogatives for a couple of days or as a review in second year Spanish.

This is a compilation of various note outlines and practice pages I designed for my students who were learning present subjunctive for the first time. There are over 150 practice sentences for students to decide between subjunctive, indicative and infinitives and a few note outlines on impersonal expressions, and a couple of simple conjugation worksheets to help students become familiar with the patterns of regular, irregular and stem changing verbs in the subjunctive.

This quiz covers DOP's step by step, starting with filling in the box chart, to identifying DOPs in sentence and replacing them, working with verb pairs, gerunds and finally answering short questions using DOP's. Quiz works best for a level II class that has practiced DOPs extensively or a level III or higher class that is reviewing their usage. (I use this as a review quiz for level IV) Sentences are simple and easy to understand. Quiz is 45 pts and takes half a class period to complete. Answer key is included.

This 12 question checklist survey about childhood activities and preferences makes a great introduction to the unit on childhood. Students read a series of statements in the imperfect tense and check off any applicable answers. Download also contains a two column vocabulary list of helpful childhood words. Free preview file is a powerpoint that matches the questions, so the day after you assign students the homework you can review the questions together. I like to print a class roster on a grid and copy it for students. Then they can tally their classmates answers to the questions as you call on students to report their responses. Worksheet works best with level II students who have recently begun learning childhood vocabulary (Realidades II and En Español ) and can recognize verbs in the imperfect tense. Powerpoint survey takes about 20 minutes to run in class the next day.

This 23 slide powerpoint explains possessive adjectives to students. Download also includes a blackline graphic organizer for notetaking they can use while you present. After the presentation there are several slides to play a game with students similar to "around the world". You will need numbered station cards for each pair of students. Directions for the game are included on a slide prior to beginning. I introduce possessives the first day and assign practice then play the game the 2nd day when students return or before they take the quiz. The examples include mostly family members and easy to identify items as most texts introduce possessives with family.

This mini adventure webquest puts students to work compiling information about a Spanish speaking country of choice. I recommend partners and a day in the lab together where you can guide them through the website and help them to form conclusions and comparisons to their own lives in the US. Assignment can be completed in one class period. Allow two more class periods for students to present their findings to the class. Assignment is in English as its designed for lower level or introductory courses but could easily be converted into Spanish for a higher level class, or used for a French class with Francophone countries.

This download is a great way for students to practice using interrogatives while socializing in large group. Students first answer 30 simple questions using a wide variety of interrogatives. Then they each receive one question and "work the party" to take turns asking and answering questions. Students switch questions every round and activity runs until most students have asked or answered most questions. Lesson is best suited as a review of interrogatives for Spanish II students or for Spanish I students at the end of the year where they have some working knowledge of simple sentences, and have been practicing with interrogatives for several days. Download has a blackline master for students and 30 large size questions you can print onto cardstock and cut apart, all ready to go for class. Lesson takes about 30-40 minutes to run, 15 minutes for students to complete the questionaire and another 20-30 minutes to work the room.

This giant powerpoint contains 82 animals from farm, forest, insects, pets all kinds of animals. I use this presentation with Spanish I when starting animals and students can create their own list of 25 animals that are of most interest to them. Photos are useful also to discuss physical descriptions of animals when reviewing adjectives, or GUSTAR with students preferences for certain animals.

This lesson feeds well off of a unit on poetry where students are already familiar with poetic terminology. It can be used as a performance assessment. I use it after reading Oda a los Tomates by Pablo Neruda and showing some youtube clips of the poem to get the feeling for personification and imagery. It could also be used after a thematic unit on food and works best with Level III or higher students who are already familiar with locating poetry mechanisms in poetry. Lesson includes brainstorming chart, rough draft, finished product and rubric templates. Free preview contains additional comments and suggestions for implementation. The finished product from students on this lesson was some of the best most creative work I have seen this year, and students really enjoyed delivering their poems in a "Spoken Word" format in class. You will want to allow some class time to create rough drafts and avoid GOOGLE translated assignments.

This lesson is a great review for present tense verbs, interrogatives, giving directions and using school vocabulary. It is primarily focused on oral communication, but does have a written component for students to submit prior to tour date as well if you wanted to assign a separate grade for their written work. It works best as a final assessment for the first review unit of Spanish II, but could also be used at years end for a Spanish I class who is familiar with giving directions. Download includes project parameters, a list of helpful questions to get students thinking about what they will include, grading rubric, destination sign up chart and printable rubrics for the teacher as well as a page of suggestions for implementation. This powerpoint covers step by step negation and other indefinite words. Each slide introduces a different combination and in between there are lots of examples for practice that students can do either orally as a group or on paper. Presentation takes one full class period with time included for practice and checking Best suited for a level II class where students are being introduced to this tricky concept.

Students create a rock music video by a Hispanic artist that demonstrates their comprehension of the song lyrics and interprets it in an original way. This project was written for Spanish students but includes directions and rubric in English so it is easily adaptable to a French or German class. It would also work really well for an ESL class where students are practicing English. Kids love to watch themselves on YOUTUBE and here is a chance to test their knowledge of Spanish in an artistic interpretation or at the very least provide some comic relief to their peers! This lesson is great for level 2 or higher as it will vary in difficulty with the song you select.

This A-B partner practice is designed for students to practice conjugating reflexive verbs, differentiating between reflexive and non-reflexive actions and reviewing telling time. Students first complete their own answers, then take turns with a partner exchanging information to complete the grid. Activity takes about 15 minutes to complete in class. Great for a warm up before a quiz or after having a few days of practice with reflexive verbs.

Octavio Paz writes about El Pachuco, who is the Mexican who is not American nor Mexican. Octavio's essay opens the door for some great discussions with students of Hispanic origin about Pachuchos, the Zoot Suit riots, discrimination against Hispanic Americans on the West coast and if the Pachuco still exists today. (Great discussion topic for students about how Cholos are similar/different than Pachucos.) This reading guide contains some questions to help students direct their focus and some key vocabulary that could give them trouble. Essay is appropriate for a Heritage Learner Class or an AP level V class where students have good comprehension skills and arent afraid to navigate some new vocabulary. This webquest is designed to get students thinking and talking about the concept of beauty/aesthetics which is one of the themes the AP Spanish test focuses on. It takes one class period working with a partner to complete the webquest and you may wish to complete the first page as homework the night before so students already have some thoughts on the topic as they enter the lab. Webquest takes students through several different sites as they examine what is beautiful today and years ago, followed by an article on plastic surgery in Spanish that they read and respond to. Lastly, there is an exit survey around their own attitudes about beauty Lesson works best for a level IV, VAP or Heritage Language learner class where students already have a high level of comprehension of Spanish .
