I created this resource for a year 8 science week during my NQT as a science teacher. I got really good feedback from students, staff and parents about my CSI week. The lessons were 40 minutes long in our school and this was with a low ability class. You could extend the first lesson by watching another youtube CSI:Miami video and real CSI video and talk about how its different in tv shows and real life. OR You could talk about the other tasks for the week as they can take a little longer to introduce. Lesson 1: An introduction to crime scene investigation Lesson 2: Trace evidence (its a very simple lesson with microscopes, you could pair it with lesson 1). Practical investigation included - Microscopes, glass slides, hair samples (animal and human), fibre samples. Lesson 3: Blood spatter -> Practical investigation included - Equipment in pwp Lesson 4: Drug analysis -> Practical investigation included - Droppers, UI, HCl, dimple tiles, beakers with Sodium bicarb, cornflour, citric acid and sugar. Please let me know of any errors or mistakes as I want to learn! I hope this made it easier for someone and helped with getting students interested in forensic science!
