At Batley Grammar School we aim to nurture students and pupils in a caring educational environment, enabling them to grow into confident, respectful, independent and successful learners. In so doing, equipping them with the depth of character and enthusiasm necessary to aspire, thrive and prosper in future academic and wider social endeavours.

Batley Grammar School is a “good school” (Ofsted Oct 2018) and we continue our school improvement journey to become an outstanding school. We aim to combine our traditional ethos and culture together with a modern approach to teaching and learning.  Visitors regularly comment about the friendly atmosphere and calm, purposeful learning environment being quite palpable.

About BGS 

Batley Grammar School was a fee paying HMC independent school which underwent the transition to become a state funded all through 4-18 Free School in September 2011. The NOR has gradually increased over the last four years and is currently 960 (200 pupils in the primary phase) and will grow to approximately 1000 in the next few years to meet the demand for places. Our development has continued in 2019/20 as we joined the Batley Mulit Academy Trust, working with local schools to serve the families in the local community.  Batley Grammar School currently has a five faculty structure: Mathematics and Technology; Science; Creative and Performing Arts; Communications and Discover.   The school has an established reputation for academic progress, good standards of behaviour and extensive extra and co-curricular opportunities.
