About International Sharing School - Madeira
International Sharing School – Madeira is a family-owned and -managed institution. Founded 16 years ago, the school is now accredited by the PYP, MYP, and DP programs and is seeking accreditation by MSA-CESS. We value the combination of a conceptual, inquiry-based, rigorous curriculum with opportunities for students to demonstrate agency and engage in social-emotional learning.
Our school currently hosts approximately 300 students from over 30 countries and teachers from more than 16 countries. We anticipate that the school will grow to its full capacity of 500 students within approximately four years.
We believe in creating an environment that is safe for both students and teachers and fosters an atmosphere where we can challenge ourselves while learning from and with each other.
We expect teachers to be committed to their own learning, and we support them in this process by offering professional development opportunities both within and outside the school.
Our school has purchased an old convent in the heart of Funchal's historic district. The building is currently being renovated under a design project led by Rosan Bosch, with input from designers, architects, engineers, teachers, psychologists, and other educational specialists. We will move to the new facilities in the spring of 2025.
The new facilities are unique and reflect our emphasis on out-of-the-box thinking. They are designed to support innovative and collaborative teaching strategies. The sharing spirit of the school encourages the community to work in shared spaces, creating hubs for individual work, group collaboration, lounging and relaxation, formal lecture-style learning, and small focus pods distributed throughout the school. We believe that embracing students' different working style preferences enhances the quality of their work, and providing a comfortable, exciting environment improves their overall happiness and well-being.
The island of Madeira is a tropical paradise. The sea offers opportunities for a wide range of water sports, the dramatically steep mountains attract hikers and nature lovers, and the old city of Funchal is home to historic Mediterranean-style buildings. Small fishing villages along the coast provide serene places to relax. While the island attracts over two million tourists per year, there are many quiet spots where you can appreciate its calm and beauty.
We welcome applications from teachers committed to professional growth, teamwork, and exploring the local culture and natural environment.
