Job overview

What we are looking for:

Would you like to be part of an exciting journey by joining a newly opened and growing school, based at our brand-new site with outstanding facilities off Thorpeville, from April 2025? Would you like to work in professional partnership with a school (NSB) ranked as the top state comprehensive school in the East Midlands by the Sunday Times for 2022, based on GCSE and A Level results?

The NSB Trust is looking for an Assistant Head, with any subject specialism, to join our growing, co-educational, 11-16 academy, Northampton School. We are seeking applicants who share in our ambitious, supportive and aspirational culture and can help to deliver our curriculum to the highest standards whilst also embracing the ethos, values and visions of The Trust. You will work closely with the Headteacher and Deputy Headteachers to ensure consistent levels of provision across the school.

You will also join part of an incredible team of teachers who are passionate about providing young people with the opportunity to grow and thrive in this growing community. We are already immensely proud of our extracurricular programme of activities, and it is essential that the successful applicant can contribute to drive this provision forward at Northampton School.

The successful candidate must have a proven track record within middle leadership within an 11-16 school.

This post will align with the Personal Development strand of the Ofsted framework with oversight of PD/PSHE/Careers and associated structures within the school initially, however, it is likely that exact responsibilities will be assigned and confirmed following appointment of the full Senior Leadership Team and may be amended in the future. This postholder will have remission commensurate with the size of the school. As the school grows, so remission and salary range for this post will increase.

We offer a truly exciting range of CPD opportunities for all teachers and leaders across the school and are wholly committed to investing in the development of our staff in The NSB Trust.

How to apply

We welcome all interested applicants to arrange a telephone/video call so that you can learn more about Northampton School and what we could offer you as a member of staff. Please also take the chance to browse our website to learn more about our past and how we are looking to the future.

Applications are accepted via the application form (available on the vacancies page), via TES QuickApply or TeachNorthants. Please contact the school if you need to request the application form in a different format. We reserve the right to act on applications received, prior to the closing date, so encourage applications to be submitted as early as possible.

Closing date: 9am, Tuesday 7th January 2025.

Interviews: w/c Monday 13th January 2025.

The NSB Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All posts working with children and young people will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.

Northampton School is an 11-16 state funded co-educational school on the North-Eastern outskirts of Northampton near Moulton. The school is part of The NSB Trust, with its partnership school, Northampton School for Boys, which has an illustrious heritage being founded in 1541 by Thomas Chipsey in Bridge Street, Northampton before moving to its present site in 1911.

Northampton School opened to 210 Year 7 students for the first time in September 2023 and moved onto its brand-new site with outstanding facilities in time for the start of the 2024/25 year. We are already providing an incredible opportunity for experienced and Early Career Teachers giving them the chance to create an outstanding school for future generations of students within the Northampton area. We offer a truly exciting range of CPD opportunities for all teachers and leaders across the school and are wholly committed to investing in the development of our staff in The NSB Trust.

The NSB Trust is also a key strategic partner of the Northamptonshire Teaching School Hub and as such there are further outstanding professional development opportunities available to all teachers.

The Trustees actively seek ways in which to attract and retain good teachers. This currently includes, amongst other things: a Surface Pro Device, access to the 25M Pool and School Gym at Northampton School for Boys, a salary sacrifice car scheme, a cycle to work scheme, free counselling and mental health support and free access to qualified physiotherapy.

Northampton School provides a strong and traditional academic curriculum, delivering consistently high-quality teaching and learning, ensuring that all students are afforded the opportunity to maximise their full academic potential whilst at the school. Furthermore, students have a wide range of extracurricular activities with a key focus on the Performing Arts (Music/Dance/Drama) and Sports. It is our strong belief that an active student is both a happy and successful one and therefore students are provided with a vast range of activities both inside and outside of the curriculum.

Our school motto is ‘Nurturing Success’. We feel that the student body, the facilities and the warm, supportive environment make Northampton School a fantastic school in which to either start or to develop a successful teaching career.
