Job overview

Are you passionate about safeguarding and student welfare? Do you thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment? Moreton School, located on the edge of Wolverhampton, is seeking an Assistant Safeguarding Lead/Welfare Officer who is compassionate, dedicated, and ready to make a real difference in the lives of our students. We are looking for someone who is empathetic, a strong communicator, and driven by the desire to safeguard and support the wellbeing of young people. If you are adaptable, resourceful, and have a natural ability to build relationships, you may be the person we’re looking for.

At Moreton School, we pride ourselves on being a community-focused school with a commitment to excellence. We are part of the Amethyst Academies Trust and are on an exciting journey of progress and growth. Our students reflect the vibrant diversity of Wolverhampton, and our school is a hub of opportunity where we nurture ambition and ensure every child feels valued. We provide a wealth of support for all staff, including a comprehensive CPD programme, and encourage collaboration and continuous development across our team.

As an Assistant Safeguarding Lead/Welfare Officer, your role will be key in ensuring the welfare and safety of our students. You will work closely with the Deputy Designated Lead and Welfare Manager, adhering to our safeguarding policies and promoting wellbeing among staff and students. Your responsibilities will include liaising with external agencies such as CAMHS, Reflexions, and Base 25, providing emotional and practical support to both students and staff, and helping students assess and manage risk. You’ll engage with families, address attendance concerns, and offer vital support to those facing mental health challenges. From attending external meetings to home visits, you will be an advocate for the welfare of our students, representing their interests and guiding them to the right support services. Maintaining accurate records and ensuring your team does the same is a crucial part of the role.

We are seeking candidates with a solid understanding of safeguarding protocols and policies, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively. Experience in working with children and young people in an educational or safeguarding capacity is essential, as is the ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion. Familiarity with systems such as CPOMS is beneficial, as is experience working with external welfare and mental health services.

At Moreton School, we set high standards for our students and staff alike, and we are looking for individuals who share our vision for delivering excellence. If you believe in empowering young people and are excited by the prospect of being part of a supportive and forward-thinking team, we would love to hear from you. Join us in making a difference—submit your completed application form today!

We can offer you:

  • A Caring Work Environment: Join a team that values your well-being and understands the importance of family priorities. We pride ourselves on being considerate employers, ensuring a supportive atmosphere that goes beyond professional life.
  • Dedicated time: We prioritise your flexibility and recognize the importance of creating an environment that fosters exceptional support for our students
  • Professional Growth: Unlock your potential with our excellent professional development opportunities and guidance. Our comprehensive Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program provides a pathway for progression, empowering you to flourish in your career.
  • Supportive Community: Join a community of friendly and supportive colleagues. Collaborate with a team that champions innovation and growth.
  • Exceptional Students: Engage with students known for their helpfulness, good manners, and pride in their appearance.
  • Vibrant Extracurriculars: Experience a school culture enriched with a wide variety of clubs, trips, events, and opportunities. Beyond the classroom, we believe in providing a holistic educational experience.

Join us at Moreton School, where we not only value education but also prioritize the well-being, growth, and fulfilment of our team members. Be a part of a community that fosters excellence in both professional and personal spheres.

Amethyst Academies Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Successful candidates will undergo checks in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education 2023 guidelines, including an Enhanced DBS and Children’s Barred List Check.

In our school, every pupil matters.  Every single one deserves the very best education so that they can take their place in the world with confidence and success.  We believe that our knowledge rich curriculum is the essential tool in achieving this and it is at the heart of everything that we do.

Our curriculum is designed to ensure that it is:

  • Challenging and knowledge-rich

  • Meaningful and purposeful

Academic success is key to increasing the life chances of our students.  We work hard to ensure that all children reach their academic potential in a safe and supportive environment.  In addition, we provide many opportunities for our students to develop as well rounded individuals by taking part in a wide variety of extra-curricular activities ranging from music and sporting activities to experiencing Japanese culture, improving gaming skills, debating or learning chess. Our extensive offer takes place before, during and after the school day and is a hugely important part of life here at Moreton. In addition, numerous residential trips occur throughout the year; Paris, Barcelona and Whitemoor Lakes are regular favourites amongst the students and staff!
