Job overview

We are looking to appoint an outstanding individual as the Bursar’s Administrator to cover maternity leave, providing high-level administrative support to the Bursar in fulfilling their varied financial and operational responsibilities, which include: financial, legal & commercial management; estates and operations management and the leadership of capital projects; information & communications technology management; and oversight of catering support.               

Duties

The role works collaboratively on behalf of the Bursar, with major stakeholders across all departments and the wider school community and demands a confidential and sensitive approach in a challenging and innovating environment. As the Bursar’s Administrator you will need to support the Bursar in a wide variety of situations in support of the school. The role requires professionalism in managing key relationships with staff, Heads, Governors, parents, and other key stakeholders and the close liaison with other assistants within the three schools. 

Experience and background

You will be highly motivated, with a proven history of high-performance administrative support to a senior level and the ability to operate under pressure. The role involves diary, correspondence and document management support to various committees, responsibility for the schools’ insurances, as well as a range of other tasks supporting the Bursar. The role is varied, requires initiative and discretion, providing a highly visible interface between the Bursar and a wide variety of people both within and outside the school.

You will be confident, enthusiastic, resourceful, tech-savvy, forward-thinking, self-motivated, and a creative problem solver who constantly seeks out areas of improvement and works to find solutions. A relentless bias for action and effective communication at all levels is a must. You must be educated to A’ level or equivalent with excellent ICT skills in the full Microsoft Office Suite and Office 365.

Hours of Work

This is a part-time, part year post working 30 hours per week during term time: 5 days from 9:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday, term time.

The salary for this role is £28,535 FTE.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and the School is therefore permitted to ask job candidates to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.

Bedales School is an independent, co-educational, selective, day and boarding school for children aged 3-18. It is situated in Petersfield in Hampshire and there are 460 pupils on its roll. There are admission fees and scholarships and bursaries are available.

Bedales is a charitable trust and was founded in 1893 by J H Badley as a humane alternative to the authoritarian regimes of the late-Victorian public schools. Its founding ethos was, and still is, “Head, Hand and Heart.”
