Job overview

We are excited to announce an opportunity for an exceptional School Business professional, with the right blend of skills, talents, experience, and values to become the Business Manager of The Blue Coat CE School, a high performing, 'Outstanding' 11-18 Comprehensive School in Oldham, Greater Manchester. We are a large and successful school, with more than 1,700 students from diverse faiths, cultures and backgrounds. We are consistently the highest attaining state secondary school in Oldham and amongst the highest in the country.

We provide a happy place to work and to learn. Our staff pride themselves on respectful relationships with students, and each other, and are committed to the best welfare and interests of all. We have a strong and supportive ethos, working hard so that every student becomes everything they can be and are meant to be.

As Business Manager, the successful applicant will have far reaching influence in how we support our young people, and we are looking for an exceptional candidate who puts student welfare and progress at the heart of everything they do.

Blue Coat’s Business Manager is an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team and also part of the Deputy Head strategic group, driving constant improvement in partnership with senior colleagues. The ideal candidate is someone who communicates clearly and confidently and who proactively seeks potential for positive change in both people and process, whilst modelling the values of the school and the trust.

A key responsibility of this role is to ensure that the business and student support operations of Blue Coat are aligned across the organisation. This includes finance, administration, HR, IT, data, exams, estate and facilities, student services and library. All of these functions are delivered by experienced teams, and it is the role of the Business Manager to lead and direct them. We are fortunate to have committed, hardworking colleagues and we foster a culture of transparency, honesty and integrity. The Business Manager is supported by a Deputy Business Manager who also helps ensure the smooth running of all non-teaching functions. Achieving efficiencies and continual improvement is nonetheless an ongoing challenge, alongside the need to ensure that staff have the training and development opportunities to enable them to keep up with a fast-paced and demanding environment.

There is, of course, no requirement that you be a teacher.

The deadline for applications is 10am on Monday 2nd December 2024.

Shortlisting and contacting candidates will be later that week.

Interviews will be during week beginning 9th December 2024.

Start date: We would like the successful candidate to start as soon as possible, but we realise that notice periods can be variable, and we are prepared to discuss the best start date for the right candidate.

We offer:

  • A competitive salary
  • Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Generous leave entitlement
  • A professional working environment at The Blue Coat School in Oldham, which is very accessible in the centre of Oldham
  • Free parking on site

The appointment is, of course, subject to satisfactory references and a successful enhanced DBS Disclosure.

Further details and a full application pack are available from our advisers ASDTi by visiting and downloading from www.bluecoatbusiness.info, by e-mailing gm@asdti.com, or by calling 07736 775776.

Please note, however, that (in common with most UK Schools and Colleges) we cannot accept CVs, nor will we accept approaches from agencies.

ASDTi are available, on our behalf, during evenings and weekends as well as in the working day, and would be pleased to discuss your application, career or relocation expectations.

About The Blue Coat CofE School

Welcome to The Blue Coat School

Mission statement:  Faith – Vision – Nurture

Welcome to The Blue Coat School website, which we hope will give you a really good insight into our school, and show how our young people are learning how to become everything they can be, and are meant to be.  You will find all the information about student achievement and progress across the curriculum, and links to national performance data and reports, so you can see how well our young people do, and why we are very proud of our academic record.  Just as important, you’ll also find, in the newsletters especially, a picture of life in a dynamic community where students grow in confidence, independence, leadership and resilience, not only in their lessons, but in the breadth of Blue Coat’s provision.  I hope you will also see how the school’s Christian ethos shines through, and that all our young people, of all faiths and denominations, learn to grow together in love, compassion, generosity of spirit, and mutual respect.  If you are an education professional, or would like to join this great profession, you’ll also find links to our work as a National Teaching School and lead school of The Northern Alliance and our work on system leadership, school-to-school support, research and development, and training the best teachers through the School Direct programme.  We look forward to meeting you.

Mr R Higgins
