We support offenders to lead law-abiding lives in their community on release.

Working 40 hours per week with a competitive salary of £29,036 per annum, alongside market leading benefits detailed below.

As Catering assistant, you’ll assist in preparing and cooking meals for some 1300 Prisoners three times per day, alongside providing a daily meal for our valued staff members.

Duties: 

  • Supporting the delivery of a four-week menu cycle of a varied and diverse menu options
  • Controlling the receipt, storage, and issue of resources.
  • Providing support to Prisoners to increase their catering knowledge, thus increasing their employability and reduction to re-offending.
  • Supporting the induction phase of all new prisoner workers, in both the main kitchen and staff canteen.
  • Maintaining all food safety/ health and safety regulations.
  • Meeting agreed prison targets which will be identified in your personal development review (PDR) and reviewed regularly throughout the year.
  • Follow any reasonable requests given by the Catering Manager and Supervisor.

The ideal candidate – what we’re looking for in you:

  • City and Guilds 7132/06-07 or 706/2 diploma in food production and cooking or equivalent.
  • Qualification in Food Safety level 3
  • Able to work in a large and busy catering environment with flexibility and a responsive approach and attitude. 
  • Resilient and patient, not fazed by working with Prisoners as part of their work regime.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, able to challenge with humility.
  • Good time management, able to work within strict timeframes.
  • Have an interest in rehabilitation and resettlement of offenders and to always be able to communicate effectively.
