The Role - Chef / Cook

We are seeking a passionate school chef to provide balanced and healthy meals for both our pupils and staff. Our pupils can have a complex relationship with food, and so you will be a positive role model in healthy eating, breaking down barriers and preconceptions, whilst providing fuel for our pupils to get through a busy and engaging school day as well as a tasty and varied diet. You will be supported by a part time kitchen assistant and will yourself support our education staff provide opportunities for some of our pupils to develop their own catering skills and knowledge, and in turn independence and potential employment interests in cooking and catering.

The Complete Education Solution (TCES)

TCES is an independent social enterprise, providing specialist education based in London, supporting exceptional neurodiverse children and young people aged 7 to 19 who have special educational needs and disabilities typically associated with autism, social emotional and mental health needs and associated disorders. Most of them will have experienced multiple placement breakdowns and significant trauma, often resulting in behaviour that challenges. On average pupils will have been excluded from other provisions up to three times before reaching us and had significant periods out of education.

TCES pupils learn at one of our two schools, our Create Learning service or within our Home Learning service; Create in the Community and Create Learning Primary support our most complex and vulnerable pupils, with TCES East London and TCES North West London supporting those who are able to access learning within a school environment. When they are ready, we aim for pupils to step down from Create into one of our main schools or a mainstream provision.

TCES Create Learning Primary is our first Primary Nurture site where education focuses on the developmental milestones and a holistic curriculum. We provide a happy, safe and secure learning environment where pupils grow in independence, form positive relationships and feel valued and respected. Through the nurture approach, pupils will improve their cognitive functioning and ability to learn through better emotional regulation.

Essential requirements to be successful in the role are: 

  • Be a Qualified Primary Teacher (holding QTS or QTLS) with post-qualification teaching experience in either the Primary or SEND sector, with experience of middle or senior leadership.
  • Holding the National Award for SEN Coordination or willing to complete in role.
  • Demonstrable experience of raising outcomes for pupils with neurodiverse needs whilst promoting a culture of inclusion.
  • Experience of managing neurodiverse children with SEND, including ASC and/or SEMH, with an understanding of potential implications for communication, learning and behaviour. 
  • Able to act as a positive role model, providing nurturing approach, building key relationships with pupils and their families. 
  • An interest in using therapeutic education principles to provide a holistic approach to learning.
