Hawes Down Primary School is a two-form entry school, situated in spacious grounds with an Additional Resource Provision [ARPS] for pupils with severe and complex communication needs. Hawes Down is part of the family of schools that make up IMPACT Multi Academy Trust.

Hawes Down Primary School is looking for a class teacher to work with children with severe and complex needs in our ARP.

The ARP is a specialist provision for children aged 4-11 with severe and complex learning and communication difficulties. Pupils in the ARP are able to access specialist teaching support to address their individual needs as well as have opportunities to study and interact socially with their peers in the mainstream.

The aim of our curriculum offer is to ensure that each pupil can make good progress towards or achieve the objectives set out in his/her EHC plan, ensure readiness for their next phase of education and build on the independence and life skills to support their journey to adulthood. We want our pupils to be able to communicate effectively in a range of settings and be able to develop confidence and skills to enjoy social interaction.

We welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds and experiences, including newly qualified teachers and we have a strong track record of supporting teachers new to special education.

We are committed to equality of opportunity for all our staff. We particularly welcome applicants from ethnic minority backgrounds as they are currently under-represented on our staff body.

We recognise the vital contribution that members of a diverse team make to our pupils’ learning. The range of cultural experiences, differing viewpoints and role models this brings is essential in our Trust and we recognise the gap that would be left in our offering without these.
