Working the hours flexibly to meet the demands of the job

We wish to appoint a reliable, experienced and motivated Clerk to Governors to work with the Chairs of Governors, the Headteacher, and other Governors. Reporting directly to the joint Chairs of Governors, this position involves arranging and servicing all governor meetings including ad hoc panels and other administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of the governing body.

We expect to have approximately 22 governing body and committee meetings each year. Apart from meetings at the school, the job is home-based, and a PC and internet connection will be needed. The position requires an average of 12 hours per week, mainly during term time, although there will be fluctuation week to week according to the demands of the job and some of the hours will be required to be worked during school holidays where necessary.

Ideally, you will have experience or knowledge of school governance as part of the role involves advising governors of the latest legislation relating to school governing bodies. The successful candidate will possess excellent written and spoken communication skills and be IT literate. The ability to remain impartial and maintain confidentiality is essential.

The Bishops' Blue Coat Church of England High School is a co-educational secondary school with sixth form in Great Boughton, Chester. At its most recent inspection, there were 1,112 students on the school roll, including 153 in the sixth form.

The school was founded in 1984 and its motto is "Known, Nurtured, Inspired". It has held academy status since 2011.
