The David Ross Education Trust is now recruiting for the role of Cover Manager to start as soon as possible. This role will be based at Lodge Park Academy in Corby.

About the role

  • You will work with the Assistant Principal to record staff absence on Bromcom, liaise with supply agencies to book supply teachers where required.
  • Direct the cover staff to where they are required – holding them to account for being on time and delivering quality provision.
  • Carry out the duties of a cover teacher.
  • Supervise students in their work during the absence of their teacher.
  • You will liaise with Subject Leaders and other teaching staff within the team in which there is an absence, where possible, to ensure that instructions are clarified.
  • You will liaise with LSAs regarding individual students being supported in any class being covered.
  • You will administer clear instructions to the class, based on the detailed work set and actively supervise students as they carry out work.
  • You will inform the subject teacher of any non-participation by individual students.
  • You will contribute to the evaluation of work set for cover lessons.
  • You will provide feedback on learning activities and contribute to Academy review and development planning.

We require an enthusiastic and highly committed person who will be an excellent attendance Cover Manager.

The successful candidate will ideally:

  • Have the ability to work flexibly as part of a team
  • Good organisation, time management, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Previous experience in a similar role, ideally within an educational setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to liaise with staff, students, and external agencies. A proactive and problem-solving mindset, with the ability to think on your feet and make decisions under pressure.
  • Proficiency in IT systems and software, including Microsoft Office and database management.
  • Knowledge of the education sector, including relevant policies and regulations.
  • Familiarity with Bromcom or similar school administration software would be advantageous.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of students.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing situations and requirements.
  • Be willing to undertake first aid training
  • Help foster a culture of high expectations
  • Have a commitment to the school’s ethos and vision
  • Model professional standards across all areas of work

Lodge Park is an 11-18 comprehensive academy, based in the town of Corby with nearly 900 students on roll. In January 2019 the academy was judged as requiring special measures by Ofsted. The new leadership team, with support from the David Ross Education Trust have drawn up rigorous plans to ensure rapid progress is made to improve the quality of education for all pupils. 

Lodge Park is therefore seeking to recruit teachers who will have high expectations of all pupils and will work relentlessly to secure improved outcomes and life chances for the young people in our community. Driving this improvement is a commitment from academy leaders that teachers are the experts in their subject and they should be enabled to teach well planned units of the curriculum, ensuring students acquire knowledge; without the distraction of unnecessary workload, excessive observation and scrutiny or low value administrative tasks. 

Leaders are committed to the “Principles of Direct Instruction” to deliver a knowledge based curriculum and we are seeking teachers who are looking to continue their professional development through an evidenced based approach to learning. The academy has a warm-strict approach to discipline and high expectations of pupils are now supported through a consistent and robust consequence system which is designed so teachers can concentrate on teaching and pupils can concentrate on learning.

The town of Corby in situated in the North of the county and is close to the market towns of Stamford, Uppingham, Oakham and Market Harborough. There are good transport links to the South East and the city of Leicester is only a 35 minute drive.
