Job overview
Term time only
We have an exciting new opportunity for a Cover Supervisor at Millside SEMH Specialist School in Slough. Millside School is part of Haybrook College Alternative Provision Academy which also has four unique programmes at KS4 and a range of ‘revolving door’ provisions at KS3/KS4. These have proven to be highly successful in supporting young people to maintain their mainstream school place or return to another mainstream school.
Millside School has over 70 pupils in Key Stage 3 and 4, all of whom have Education, Health and Care Plans for Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH). Our shared aim is to help our pupils to make positive behaviour choices and become independent learners with positive futures.
This is a full time (37 hours per week), term time only position, to start as soon as possible. It will be fixed term until the end of the 2024-2025 academic year in the first instance.
The role of the Cover Supervisor is to:
- Receive direction on a daily basis from the Head of Millside School as to the work required.
- Supervise work that has been set by absent teaching staff.
- Manage the behaviour of students while they are undertaking this work to ensure a constructive environment.
- Respond to any questions from pupils about process and procedures
- Deal with any immediate problems or emergencies according to the Haybrook College policies and procedures.
- Collect completed work and return it to the class teacher.
- Report back as appropriate using the centre’s agreed procedures on the behaviour of pupils during the class, and any issues arising.
- General support duties within the centre as directed by the Head of Centre or the Senior Leadership Team.
Although the position will be based at Millside School, there may be times where you will be required to cover at other Haybrook College centres in Slough. You will therefore need to be available at short notice to travel to any of the Haybrook centres which require your services. You could be asked to cover the lessons of any subject on the curriculum and you could be working at a centre for anything from a day to several weeks depending on the length of the requirement. You will need to be proactive, highly flexible, have a good standard of literacy and numeracy and excellent communication skills.
