Summary of Role
South Island School is seeking to appoint an exceptional Deputy Head of Inclusion. In this role, you will support and report to the Head of Inclusion in leading the Individual Needs Faculty, and the development and implementation of the whole school strategy for inclusion. Your primary role will be to collaborate with and assist the Head of Inclusion in actualising the systems, processes, infrastructure, and student-centred programs necessary to ensure that every student within the school receives tailored support for their unique learning needs.
You will be a member of the Academic Leadership Team (ALT), ensuring that our collaborative academic decisions are suitably inclusive and mindful of the needs of all students. Additionally, you will coach and guide staff in other faculties on the development of differentiated and inclusive teaching strategies as we work together towards the ESF vision for every student to be the best they can be.
The successful candidate will exhibit strong management abilities and leadership potential. Whether you have a proven track record in leading teams and initiatives, or you demonstrate the capacity and promise for such leadership, your role will involve guiding colleagues within the Individual Needs faculty and successfully driving whole school initiatives. You will be an accomplished specialist in the field of learning diversity and learning support, possessing a profound understanding of the unique academic and developmental needs of students in secondary and further education, specifically those aged between 11 and 18 years. You should possess the innate capacity to stimulate, inspire, and connect with students through creative and innovative methods, fostering a dynamic learning environment both within the classroom and beyond its boundaries. You will embody robust pastoral care skills, with a focus on understanding and meeting the diverse learning needs of students. Your role involves fostering well-being and social-emotional health, crucial factors in students' overall learning development.
The role carries an additional TLR3 allowance, as per the ESF Terms and Conditions.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
- A degree in education or a related field;
- An internationally recognised teaching qualification (i.e., a postgraduate teaching qualification or an education degree);
- Certificate in Psychometric Testing, Assessment and Access Arrangements (CPT3A), or a willingness to complete the training in-post;
- Proven experience in a leadership role within an educational setting;
- Prior experience teaching Learning Support and working with students with diverse learning needs;
- Experience in implementing Individualised Education Plans (IEPs) and Student Support Plans;
- Familiarity with a range of assessment strategies for identifying students’ individual needs and supporting learning;
- Knowledge of current developments in inclusive education and Universal Design for Learning (UDL);
- Experience in developing inclusive teaching strategies and contributing to extra-curricular programmes.

- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with students, parents, teachers, and other relevant professionals;

- A high level of personal organisation;
- Proficiency in creating and maintaining an inclusive, safe, and innovative learning environment;
- Competence in designing and delivering differentiated lessons.
