Job overview

Deputy Principal – Culture

If you share our vision of ‘Excellence for All, By All’ and are looking for a purpose driven trust that will help you deliver real impact for young people, we really need to meet as we have some life-changing work to do together.  But we appreciate it’s not all about what you can do for us and our community, so we are committed to helping you succeed through exceptional personal development and support, and a culture of collaboration.

Oasis Academy Lord's Hill is a local Secondary school, serving children aged 11-16 in the Lord’s Hill and surrounding communities of Southampton. We are dedicated to developing proud, determined and kind students who are the best versions of themselves in an educational setting where we celebrate diversity and relentlessly focus on the attainment of all of our children. We thrive in an environment full of different thinkers and burgeoning potential. A multi-cultural hub of learning with fantastic facilities and a newly forming team of professional educators and support staff that have the best interests and safety of our young charges firmly at the centre of everything we do.

Oasis Academies exist to provide a rich and balanced educational environment which caters for the whole person - academically, vocationally, socially, morally, spiritually, physically, emotionally and environmentally. Our task is to serve our students, as well as to provide a learning hub for the entire community. In this way we will raise aspirations, unlock potential and work to achieve excellence through encouraging a ‘can do’ culture which nurtures confident and competent people.

We recognise that providing teaching and learning for all is not always easy and as an academy we deal with any challenging situations as a collaborative team that supports and helps out as needed. It’s what makes us strong and confident about our future and that of our young people.

What’s in it for you?

If you really are the sort of person who is motivated to want to make a genuine positive impact to young lives and has ambition to develop your expertise further – we can help you get there.

·      At Oasis we offer exceptional personal development opportunities both within our Lord’s Hill Academy school and beyond across.

·      We invest in our people to ensure they are properly trained and informed in their area of expertise and have every opportunity to progress further – even up to Regional Director and beyond. There is no barrier and no blocker to progression if you seek it.

·      The Lord’s Hill team is ambitious, enthused and determined to deliver the very best education for our young people and being part of a motivated and inspired team makes for great results and brings personal reward and satisfaction.

Diversity of background and situation inevitably brings a diversity of attitude to, and engagement with, teaching and learning. This can result in behavioural and/or attendance challenges which need addressing so we can ensure every student can access great quality education and progress to fulfil their ambition.

The role of Deputy Principal in charge of Culture is to ensure the Academy is consistently delivering ambitious and high-quality lessons that motivate and inspire all our students to fulfil their potential.

There is a full job description attached, but as well as being degree educated with a PGCE qualification we are interested in evidence of other experience and personal attributes, including:

·      You will experienced at de-escalation techniques and are committed to continuing with your personal development.

·      You will be experienced shaping whole school strategies around Culture, Safeguarding. Attendance and Behaviour for Learning and will be able to provide evidence of improving outcomes as a middle leader.

·      You are able to set clear expectations which inspire, motivate and challenge students and staff and are experienced at promoting good progress and outcomes.

·      You are a firm, unambiguous communicator at all levels, able to keep calm and maintain control under potentially challenging circumstances.

·      Demonstrate emotional resilience in working with varying behaviours and attitudes to use of authority and maintaining discipline.

·      And of course, you will be an excellent and inspiring classroom practitioner with a consistent record of high-quality outcomes for students.

If this sounds like you and you can’t wait to change lives – we would love to hear from you by the deadline of Monday 21st October @ 5pm. Interviews will take place 24/25 October. We encourage school visits so you can see and experience life at Lord’s Hill – please get in contact with us by contacting Dawn Warwick at dawn.warwick@oasislordshill.org to arrange a visit for w/c 14th October.  You can read more about our school at www.oasisacademylordshill.org

Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill opened in 2008 as part of the initial Academy programme. Since we have been open we have seen significant improvements in achievement, progress and attendance. Academic achievement has markedly improved for all students regardless of their needs or starting positions. In fact analysis of our data by prior attainment (low, middle and high) shows that we outperform most schools nationally. We have also seen a huge improvement in student attendance. This is a good indicator, because if students want to be at school they attend regularly.

We have a brand new building which offers our students outstanding learning opportunities. We are very fortunate to have these facilities and we are committed to making the most of them both for our students and the wider community.

The ethos of the Academy cannot simply be summed up by our new building, our improved results and better attendance. The heart and soul of Lord’s Hill can be summed up in our core values which are essential to every member of staff and are the essence of who we are.

Core values:

  • A passion to include everyone
  • A desire to treat everyone equally, respecting differences
  • A commitment to healthy and open relationships
  • A deep sense of hope that things can change and be transformed
  • A sense of perseverance to keep going for the long haul

As an Academy we are dreaming, planning and acting to ensure that Oasis Academy Lord’s Hill becomes an outstanding learning community. This is our aim, not for the praise of politicians or specialists, nor to lord it over others. We follow our aim because this community deserves it. We do it because it is the right thing to do.

If you feel that you too can make a difference to our students’ future we’d love to hear from you.
