Job overview

Are you looking for a part-time job working in a school?

Lincoln UTC is looking for Exam Invigilators to join our expanding team.

You will work as part of a team of invigilators who will ensure exams are carried out according to the Exams Code of Conduct under the direction of our Examinations Officer.

GCSE, A Level, BTEC and T Level exams take place in May/June and mock exams in November/March, of each academic year. The rate of pay is £13.00 per hour. Previous school and exams experience is preferred although not essential as full training and on-going support will be provided.

Exam Invigilator jobs are fantastic for candidates looking for part-time and flexible work to fit around other commitment, but we do ask that you can provide as much availability as possible during the summer GCSE and A-Level exam season. Indicative dates for the summer exam season will be discussed if you are invited to interview.

You will be required to provide a minimum of 2 recent and relevant references. The role is also subject to an Enhanced DBS check, overseas police clearances where applicable and the UTC will carry out checks on eligibility to work in the UK and qualification checks where appropriate.

For an application form please email: hr@lincolnutc.co.uk.

The primary responsibility of invigilators is to support candidates in a calm and approachable manner whilst maintaining examination integrity.

Exams take place in AM and PM slots, throughout designated points of the academic year.

 The role of an invigilator:

·        Ensure exams are taken in a comfortable environment.

·        Support candidates: helping them find their seats, to understand how to comply with regulations and to answer any questions.

·        Give the invigilator announcements before exams start.

·        Monitor students’ attendance and behaviour in the examination room carefully and to ensure compliance with procedures and regulations is followed.

·        Complete Invigilator incidents forms and relay any incidents that occur during the exam session back to the Examinations Officer.

·        In the event of a student illness or emergency, to contact the Examinations Officer who will ensure a first aider attends the examination room.

·        In an emergency, to work with colleagues to organise the exit of candidates from the venue quickly and safely.

Primary duties of invigilators at Lincoln UTC:

·        Check in at the Exams office during designated times to collect examination papers and associated paperwork.

·        Set out exam papers on the correct desks in advance of students entering the room; in larger rooms, several different exams may take place.

·        Organise the admission of students to the room, at the correct time and to the correct desks, in a coherent manner.

·        Check candidates’ dictionaries and calculators.

·        Escort students to comfort breaks under exam conditions.

·        Compile accurate attendance/absentee records.

·        Deliver the examination papers back to the Exams office immediately and securely at the end of an examination.

·        Demonstrate respect for all students and colleagues.

·        Follow policy and procedure on safeguarding and student welfare.

Lincoln UTC is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. All appointments will be made in accordance with safer recruitment practice and the guidance in ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’. Online checks will be carried out on shortlisted candidates. All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references, and checks on suitability to work with children.

We are not selective, but we are not for everyone. Our challenging technical, practical  and academic curriculum is not an easy option. We have a very mature, calm and  purposeful learning environment, and require students to be fully committed to our  approach.

The UTC prepares students for a seamless transition into the workplace and for this  reason we operate a longer working day than most schools. Our hours begin at 8.45am  and finish at 4.15pm, with a 20 minute morning break and a 30 minute lunch. All  required work is completed within this time frame therefore we do not issue formal  homework.

We do not have a uniform but expect our students to dress accordingly in business  attire. We also do not operate a bell. Students are expected to effectively manage  themselves, as they would at university or in employment, and arrive at lessons on time  and ready to learn.

Our behaviour policy is consistent and has clear boundaries, therefore disruption is rare  and students treat our business environment with the respect it deserves.

We have fewer students and smaller class sizes than most ‘ordinary’ schools, and for  this reason lessons are less chaotic. Teachers have time to help everyone individually,  which leads to the development of positive and supportive relationships between the  students and the staff.

Attendance is in excess of 97% for all year groups, which is exceptionally strong.  Students are happy and proud to be part of our community. They enjoy coming to the  UTC and want to attend regularly.

Our vision is to ensure that every  student develops the skills required to  secure the next step of their chosen  career, either at university or in  employment. In order to achieve this, we place an  explicit focus on skill development  and the acquisition of the traits of the  ideal learner. It pervades all that we  do and the ways in which students  are encouraged to learn.
