Have you previously provided guidance and support to families? Due to the integral work of our therapy team here at Portfield School we have an incredible opportunity for a Family Support Co-ordinator to join the team on a part time basis working 52 weeks a year, two days a week.

The role will play a pivotal part in helping families navigate through their child’s school life.

A day in the life of a Family Support Coordinator would include:

  • Working with families in their own homes to address any concerns regarding life at home, to ensure the same approaches used by school are used effectively at home.
  • Promoting any relevant groups, social clubs, respite services, holiday clubs etc
  • Assisting parents/carers to complete any application for support such as DLA applications, CAMHS referrals, housing modification grants.
  • Signposting external agencies including local authorities or crisis centres that could be needed for domestic violence support, bereavement services etc.
  • Accompanying parents to appointments related to the child and act as an advocate – eg. Doctors, hospital, especially if English is the second language to the parents.
  • Supporting foster parents with any school activities and help promote a positive relationship between the two.
  • Guiding parents/carers to understand school policies, procedures, interventions and programmes.
