The City of Liverpool College is excited to announce an opportunity for a passionate and dedicated Fashion Design Lecturer to join our Creative Arts and Fashion team. This position is based at our vibrant Arts Centre Campus on Myrtle Street, L7 7JA.

 

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual who is enthusiastic about delivering exceptional educational experiences to our students. The ideal candidate will have the ability to teach outstanding lessons across various levels and exam boards, with skills that are transferable across Fashion Design, Fashion Construction and more generally the Creative Industries.

Key Responsibilities

  • To contribute to the College and curriculum area strategic objectives and to actively engage in the annual review.
  • To be aware of national developments in subject area and update knowledge and skills on an annual basis.
  • To plan, prepare and deliver high quality lessons to achieve effective management of the learning process.
  • Plan and use a range of effective and appropriate teaching and learning techniques to engage and motivate students and encourage independence and student autonomy.
  • Establish a purposeful and motivating learning environment where students feel safe, secure, confident, and valued.
  • Establish and maintain procedures with students which promote and maintain appropriate behaviour, communication, and respect for others, while challenging discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
  • To set, mark and record work in accordance with College and School Assessment policies.
  • To track all students’ progress and attendance in accordance with agreed College systems and policies
  • To provide a balance of appropriate teaching styles and learning experiences.
  • To be aware of external/internal assessment procedures and to play and appropriate part in their implementation.
  • To liaise with Head of School and Deputy Head of School in contributing to the design of programmes and teaching approaches which will enable curriculum areas to achieve high standards and value added.
  • To liaise with Head of School and Deputy Head of School and the wider curriculum teams in contributing to the administration necessary to support the teaching, learning and assessment within the subject area.
  • To review own professional development needs and to participate fully in future training and development.
  • To communicate and consult with parents, carers and students including Parents’ Evening, Welcome Evenings, events, and open evenings.
  • To ensure that all students in the subject area comply with College’s policies and procedures.
  • To provide enrichment opportunities that are exciting, motivating and enhance the student experience.
  • To ensure learners are supported with a well prepared VLE and resources for independent study.
  • A knowledge and appreciation of the different needs of learners and effective strategies to ensure all learners make progress. 

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Essential criteria:

  • Educated to Level 6 e.g. Degree in related degree or significant industry experience. 
  • Knowledge and links to the relevant industry within the city region.
  • Proficient within Fashion Design practices.
  • Proficient within Fashion Construction practices.
  • A recognised Teaching qualification
  • Excellent computer literacy – ability to use the current IT programs of the College.
  • Proven relevant experience of curriculum planning, development & delivery in Management & Professional.
  • Engaged and passionate about Continuing Professional Development.
  • Minimum of Level 2 Literacy/Numeracy.
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills, an effective member of a team
  • Ability to set high standards for students, colleagues and for themselves.
  • Strong understanding of the importance and impact of feedback on learner performance
  • Experience using ICT to support and enhance subject delivery.
  • Outstanding teacher who is student centred

Desirable criteria:

1.    Successful recent previous teaching experience.

2.    Knowledge and understanding gained from previous experience in delivering on University Arts London (UAL) Programmes

3.    Experience and understanding of ALPS and value added as progress measures.

4.    Good understanding of curriculum development to meet the training needs of employers.

5.    Experience with awarding body verification and standardisation.

Opened in 1992 after being formed from a number of colleges in the city we now have 5 locations situated in the heart of Liverpool. Currently the college serves more than a third of all 16-18 year olds in Liverpool, and educates almost 12,000 learners a year. In 2018 the college achieved a pass rate of 99.6% beating the national average of 97.6% for a-level results. Within this year as well we had a 100% pass rate in modern languages.

However, the college itself is not just facts and figures. The mission statement of provide high quality skills and education by delivering opportunities for growth to all people and business of the Liverpool City region, shows inclusivity and a community understanding. The ease in which to get here helps quite a lot to. Be it driving, buses, trains or even a ferry you are never short of options. 

Being that working/living in Liverpool does offer a wide range of experiences to have. Historical buildings like the Bombed out church, Royal court theatre house or even a hidden gem like the Bluecoat School lane which boasts being the oldest building in Liverpool. The Beatles museum is a popular place to explore the band and possible find bits out about them you might not have known. Or if just unwinding and relaxing there are multiple pubs/bars, restaurants, and comedy nights to enjoy.
