Sedbergh School Vietnam (SSV) is a bilingual international boarding school. We currently have over 1400 students from Nursery to Year 13 and approximately 200 support and teaching staff making Sedbergh Vietnam a busy school with a number of exciting challenges ahead as we expand. The role:
● Assist the Grade 1 teacher in implementing the Cambridge Primary Curriculum, focusing on English, Mathematics, and Science.
● Support individual and small groups of students during lessons, providing additional explanation and guidance as needed.
● Help prepare classroom materials, including setting up activities, organizing resources, and creating displays.
● Assist in the supervision of students during class time, break periods, and school events.
● Support the teacher in managing student behavior, promoting positive discipline strategies.
● Assist with routine tasks such as taking attendance, collecting homework, and maintaining student records.
● Provide support for students with special educational needs or English as an Additional Language (EAL) under the guidance of the lead teacher.
● Assist in the assessment process by helping to administer tests, record observations, and collect student work samples.
● Communicate effectively with the lead teacher about student progress, concerns, or incidents.
● Assist in maintaining a clean, safe, and organized classroom environment.
● Participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions as required.
● Support the planning and execution of class projects, field trips, and special events.
● Maintain confidentiality regarding student and family information.
Requirements:
● Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
● Prefer candidate with certificate or diploma in Teaching Assistance or Early Childhood Education.
● Experience working with young children (5-6 years old) in an educational setting.
● Familiarity with the Cambridge Primary Curriculum is preferred.
● Experience teaching in an international school setting is a preferable.
● Basic understanding of child development and early learning practices.
● Excellent classroom management skills.
● Excellent Vietnamese and English language skills, both written and verbal.
● Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
● Patience and ability to work with children of varying abilities.
● Basic knowledge of an additional language (particularly relevant to the school's community) is an advantage.
● First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
● Passionate about supporting young learners' growth and development.
● Patient, caring, and empathetic towards children.
● Flexible and adaptable to changing situations in the classroom.
● Proactive and takes initiative in supporting the lead teacher.
● Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
● Enthusiastic and positive attitude.
● Cultural sensitivity and respect for diversity
● Acceptable police checks (or equivalent) from the country of origin and from all other countries in which the applicant has worked and no question regarding suitability to work with children.
● Appropriate references from current and previous employer, corroborated by personal phone calls.
