Job overview
We seek to appoint a Graduate Gap Staff member from September 2025 to July 2026 to join the larger Resident Staff Team. The successful applicant will be resident in staff accommodation and will provide support for the day-to-day running of the St Catherine’s Senior and Prep schools across various departments. This is an exciting opportunity to experience the life and work of teachers and see how a busy through school runs.
At times the Graduate Gap will work alongside the School Leaver Gap students, lending some leadership within that team and mentoring the younger Gaps. However, for the majority of the time, she will undertake duties more suited to her greater maturity and graduate qualifications, having some opportunities to experience school life in areas of particular interest to the applicant. These may include areas of specific academic subject interest, age group of pupils or extra-curricular activities. She will also have boarding house supervision duties, as a member of the Resident Staff Team, offering insights into the pastoral care of pupils.
The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic and professional graduate, able to work independently and as part of a team. The post would suit a graduate considering a career in teaching/education and wanting to gain insight and understanding before committing to teacher training.
Remuneration for the role and accommodation on site in a school house are part of the package.
This is a position which is only suited to a female applicant because of the need for overnight supervision of girls and one to one interaction with pupils in the boarding house.
Further details and an application form are available from www.stcatherines.info/welcome/job-opportunities or by email from the HR Administrator on jobapplications@stcatherines.info
Applications will be assessed in order of receipt and interviews may occur at any stage after applications are received. Please apply as soon as possible.
St Catherine’s is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening, including checks with past employers and an enhanced DBS and barred list check. The School is an equal opportunities employer.
About St Catherine's School
St Catherine's School, Bramley, an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 3 - 18. Founded in 1885, the school enjoys over a century of tradition and prides itself on its own very special blend of academic excellence and pastoral care.
As a girls' school St Catherine's ensures that its students develop in an environment which suggests to them in everything they see around them that there is nothing that a woman cannot achieve.
They gain a balanced view of the world and their place in it and, with that sense of fearlessness and security, and the confidence it generates, I believe that St Catherine's girls will continue to be very well placed to pursue their education when they leave school at eighteen as sensible, caring and competent young women who will have much to offer in life.
Academic results are important - the school is comfortably placed in the infamous league tables - but we believe that there is much more to an all round education for the young women of the 21st century. The breadth of opportunity afforded to our students and the special atmosphere of support and encouragement which is the hallmark of the school allow St Catherine's to enjoy a reputation as a happy school for bright girls. The philosophy that happiness at school is the key to success and enjoyment for every individual underpins everything we do.
