Job overview

The PE department at St Columba’s College endeavours to inspire students to enjoy and engage in a lifelong love of physical activity. The importance of an active and healthy lifestyle is vital, and we aim to motivate and excite students to continue beyond their time here. Through the setting of a broad range of challenging physical experiences, pupils are able to develop their competences, to grow and to learn as an individual and as part of a team.

We are looking to appoint a Graduate Sports Coach on a one-year fixed term contract. The successful candidate will possess the skills and passion to deliver high quality coaching in one of our major team sports (mainly Rugby, Football or Basketball for boys, and girls Netball or Football). They will undertake training sessions and matches within these sports, and assist in the curriculum teaching and after school coaching of PE and sport in some of our various other competitive sports on offer (Basketball, Swimming, Cricket, Tennis and Athletics). The potential to work on flagship sport related fitness with our older teams would be an advantage.

The Graduate Sports Coach will help promote sport and physical activity throughout the whole school, including the opportunity to work with our Prep School PE department; gaining valuable experience of working with students throughout the whole age range (4-18). There is great scope for personal and professional development for the successful candidate. Working with a team of seven PE teachers across the Prep and Senior school, the Graduate Sports Coach will be given the opportunity to gain an array of professional development experiences.

We welcome applications from anyone with a vibrant, enthusiastic, child-centred approach to sports coaching. In return we offer an attractive salary and benefits package including free lunches, car parking and use of the Fitness Suite. Candidates must have a willingness to play a full part in the extra-curricular life of the College and be in sympathy with its Catholic ethos.

St Columba’s College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All post holders will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the role, including reference checks with past employers, online background checks, and the Disclosure & Barring Service.

Closing date: 10 am on Friday, 30th August 2024. Interviews will be conducted shortly afterwards. Early applications are encouraged as the College reserves the right to call suitable candidates to interview prior to the closing date.
