Job overview

DBIS seeks an inspiring Head of Art and Design & Technology to lead our well-resourced and thriving department. The successful candidate will have a proven track record of successful leadership and a deep understanding of current pedagogical approaches in Art and Design & Technology. The Head of Department will lead curriculum development and assessment design and mentor colleagues to foster a collaborative environment where student creativity and innovation flourish.


To be considered, it is essential to have:

  • A minimum of four years’ experience in a full-time class teaching role, with some middle leadership experience;
  • A bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree in Art or Design & Technology or a closely related field;
  • A relevant postgraduate teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, QTS);
  • Experience teaching Art or Design & Technology to a high quality at Secondary School level within the English National Curriculum framework;
  • Experience teaching Key Stage 3, (I)GCSE and A Level Art or Design & Technology (applications from IB Art or Design teachers will also be accepted).


It is desirable to have: 

  • A master's or postgraduate qualification in a related subject;
  • Experience working with EAL students (English as an Additional Language);
  • Experience or interest in being an examiner for (I)GCSE and/or A Level. 


All new teachers are offered two-year renewable contracts and a competitive compensation package, with a gratuity of 18.75%, an additional monthly cash allowance, remuneration of school fees for one child and full medical and dental insurance for the employee.
