About Lomond School
Lomond School is a co-educational independent school, for children aged 3 to 18 years, positioned in the elegant suburbs of the coastal town of Helensburgh located only 10 minutes from Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park. Lomond School has recently been authorised as an International Baccalaureate World School for the Diploma and Career-related Programmes and will be delivering these as well as existing Scottish Qualifications from August 2021.
At Lomond School we believe passionately that education should be about supporting our young people to develop and grow, both academically and personally, as rounded individuals with strong values who are ultimately prepared to embark confidently and successfully on their life beyond Lomond School. We uphold this commitment with six Guiding Principles which are delivered throughout our curriculum and co-curriculum. These include: Internationalism; Environmentalism; Adventure; Leadership; Lifelong Learning and Service. To find out more visit our website at www. lomondschool.com.
We provide small class sizes, an extensive programme of extra-curricular activities, attention to the individual and a strong record of academic achievement which opens the door to allow new experiences, skills and talents to be explored. All aspects of development are accorded importance, be they academic, musical, dramatic, sporting or in wider outdoor activities.
The Lomond Family
Our experienced pastoral care team ensures the welfare and onward progression of all of our students. Our young people are well known by staff and teachers and we see ourselves as a large family where any issues or problems are identified and dealt with promptly and effectively.
Extra-curricular and Outdoor Learning
Our location means that there is a particular emphasis on outdoor pursuits. The Duke of Edinburgh Award is, without doubt, a significant feature and we have enjoyed great success carrying out expeditions both locally and abroad. Many of our trips and excursions revolve around our passion for the outdoors and have included trekking in Morocco, canoeing in Norway and skiing in Austria.
Living at Lomond
Lomond School is the only school in the West of Scotland with boarding for children aged 9 to 18. We have a modern, purpose built, boarding house which houses both boys and girls and thus allows brothers and sisters to live in the same accommodation, essentially as family. We think of our boarding house as home rather than an extension of school. Most of our boarders come from both Britain and other countries around the world, which adds an important international and multi-cultural dimension to our school. Our boarding facility adds a distinctive dimension to the school; the mix of cultures and backgrounds enriches our curriculum and co-curriculum, supporting all of our pupils to develop their global awareness and understanding. Our infrastructure boasts a mix of modern, purpose built structure and characterful listed buildings, which make for an inspirational setting for our young people.
