Head of English (Secondary School) – required for August 2025

DBIS seeks a passionate and accomplished Head of English to lead our thriving department. The successful candidate will lead a dedicated team across the subjects of English Language, English Literature, Media Studies and Drama, fostering a collaborative environment where students develop a lifelong love of language and strong communication skills. This key leadership role involves curriculum development, assessment design, mentoring colleagues and promoting excellence in teaching and learning. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of successful leadership and a deep understanding of current pedagogical approaches.

To be considered, it is essential to have:

• A minimum of four years’ experience in a full-time class teaching role, with some middle leadership experience;
• A bachelor’s (or equivalent) degree in English or a closely related field;
• A relevant postgraduate teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, QTS);
• Experience teaching English Language and Literature to a high quality at Secondary School level within the English National Curriculum framework;
• Experience teaching Key Stage 3, (I)GCSE and A Level English Literature (applications from IB English teachers will also be considered).

It is desirable to have: 

• A master's or postgraduate qualification in a related subject;
• Experience in teaching Drama in Secondary School (non-exam groups);
• Experience with the subject of Media Studies;
• Experience working with EAL students (English as an Additional Language);
• Experience or interest in being an examiner for (I)GCSE and/or A Level. 

All new teachers are offered two-year renewable contracts and a competitive compensation package, with a gratuity of 18.75%, an additional monthly cash allowance, remuneration of school fees for one child and full medical and dental insurance for the employee.
