Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated individual to give sports and PSHE lessons to Japanese students at this co-educational boarding school as the Head of Girls' Games and PSHE Teacher. The role involves overseeing and coordinating all aspects of girls' sports games and developing and delivering PSHE curriculum.

Role responsibilities

  • Provision of girls’ PE and Games across key stages 2 to 5
  • Work alongside the Director of Sport to develop the whole school Sport and PE program
  • Developing and overseeing the delivery of the school’s PSHE program
  • Develop a strategic plan to promote active healthy lifestyles across all girls’ groups
  • Organisation of sports fixtures and tournaments
  • Creation of risk assessments for PE lessons, fixtures and tournaments
  • Ensuring safeguarding of students
  • Participate in the co-curricular programme, with activities to be discussed and agreed upon appointment
  • Have day to day responsibility for planning and management of the administrative events for your classes
  • Promote a healthy understanding of diet, exercise and nutrition

Essential qualifications and experience

  • Have a coaching/teaching background in British games/sports
  • Possess QTS/PGCE teaching qualifications to teach in England
  • Experience of developing and delivering PSHE curriculum
  • Effectively supporting the development of the PE/Games Department throughout the school and inspire pupils and staff with strong subject knowledge and a passion for learning

Desired experience

  • Experience leading Girls’ Games in boarding school setting
  • Coaching and/or teaching Sports/PE in an International/boarding context
  • Supporting students with GTi and SEND needs
  • Drive, with appropriate training, a school minibus

General

The following duties are ones which all staff are required to perform:

  • Observe health and safety procedures and work safely at all times
  • To be responsible for your own continuing self-development, undertaking training as appropriate to the working environment and location, and developments in your role
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for whom you are responsible and with whom you come into contact
  • Undertake any other duties as required in order to meet the changing needs and demands of the Organisation
  • Conduct yourself with professionalism, tact and diplomacy at all times as a representative of Rikkyo School
  • To attend any training as required by the School

Salary & Hours

Salary is based on UK Teachers Pay Scale and is dependent on qualifications and experience.

Full Time, Monday to Friday but as we are a full boarding school then this will entail some weekend work and the occasional evening to oversee sporting fixtures.

You will be expected to take your holidays during the School holidays.

Due to the remote and rural location of the School, you will be required to have your own transport in which to travel to and from the School to perform your duties.

Based near Horsham, West Sussex, Rikkyo School in England is a Japanese boarding school for boys and girls aged between 10 and 18. It is an independent secondary school which was founded in 1972. At Rikkyo School, Japanese is the main language on the curriculum. Students are able to study for their iGCSE’s while at the school. It also teaches spoken and listening in English. The classrooms for the English subject are smaller than usual. Pupils can also learn biology, physics and chemistry. The school aims to create a fun, enriching and friendly atmosphere. Students are encouraged to have excellent academic success, as well as personal development.

Teachers make good use of the excellent curriculum and facilities to provide students with good opportunities to achieve in all subjects. Students are exceptionally well behaved. They are courteous and thoughtful in the way they interact with visitors, staff members and with each other. They feel very safe in school. The school’s leaders continue to support the teachers well, enabling them to provide a good quality of teaching which results in good achievement.”
