About the School - NBH Canonbury
North Bridge House Senior School & Sixth Form in Canonbury serves children aged 11-18 years. Islington’s first independent Senior School & Sixth Form, and judged ‘outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted, we are part of North Bridge House School, a family of four independent day schools across five campuses in Hampstead and Islington, London, for children aged 2-18 years.
We challenge our students on a daily basis and prepare them for entry into the top universities and the world of work, as well as encouraging their talents in a wide range of extracurricular and enrichment activities. North Bridge House Canonbury offers a high-quality education in surroundings that are as inspirational as the exceptional teaching.
With a wide range of enrichment opportunities that complement our academic provision, all of our students will leave North Bridge House well-rounded and highly qualified. With specialist teachers that have been hand-picked from across some of the best schools in London and from highly successful academic backgrounds, we will help our students to achieve the high aspirations we have for them.
We are recruiting an exceptional Head of History who can teach the subjects across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5. The position is for April 2025 and is suitable for an experienced colleague. The post is for full-time and permanent.
Small classes, highly motivated students and a stunning setting in the heart of London all contribute to making North Bridge House Senior Canonbury a special place to teach. Previous experience in the independent school sector is not required, but high expectations for children’s learning are essential.

North Bridge House Senior School and Sixth Form Canonbury is a co-educational day school for Year 7 to Year 13 students in North London.
We pride ourselves on providing a unique, high quality education, delivered by inspirational teachers in state-of-the-art facilities. The Grade II listed Tudor building has been beautifully restored to provide a contemporary learning environment in a prime London location, easily accessible by a range of public transport links.
North Bridge House Canonbury is dedicated to providing students with an outstanding education and to developing happy, confident young adults with the skills to become future leaders. Thanks to our small class sizes we are able to tailor our teaching and support to meet the needs of every child.
We are at the forefront of understanding teens and how to enhance their performance. With experts continuing to shed ever-more light on teenage learning patterns and the stages of their brain development, we believe that by effectively harnessing this research we can maximise the potential of each individual. Our work with the Teenage Sleep Foundation and Dr Paul Kelley from the University of Oxford has led us to introduce a later start time for our Sixth Formers, whilst Professor Sarah-Jayne Blakemore and Teenage Mental Health champion, Johnny Benjamin, have informed our pupil support programme and helped us, and the parent body, better understand our teens.
North Bridge House Schools is a prestigious group, consisting of four additional well-established schools across North London, serving families in Hampstead, Islington, Hackney, Camden and Westminster. With an excellent reputation, North Bridge House’s ethos is centred on nurturing and celebrating the individual, pupils not only achieving academic success, but ready for the real world ahead of them. All North Bridge House schools are committed to providing comprehensive but bespoke Professional Development opportunities to enable teachers to be the very best practitioners possible.
