Job overview

We are now seeking to appoint a well-qualified and enthusiastic Head of Racket Sports to lead on Tennis, and oversee the delivery of Squash and Badminton. This is an important role which will lead in the development of rackets at all levels and abilities throughout Stamford School. Coaching is provided to students from Y5 with both curriculum (GAMES) and co-curricular delivery throughout the year.

Tennis is one of our primary summer sports with 26 teams playing fixtures across the term. The program is supported by year round coaching, pre-season and a bi annual tennis tour to Portugal. Aside from the Saturday block fixtures the highlight for the performance players is attendance to the Eton national school finals.

Stamford School has 4 squash courts with the local community squash club based on the school campus. There is specialist external coaching and teams are entered into the national competitions at various age groups. Squash is a rackets option for students from Y10 and above whilst co-curricular provision is open to all age groups year round.

We are blessed with two sport halls providing access to 9 badminton courts. There is specialist external coaching to support the performance players and regular co-curricular sessions to support the curriculum provision within GAMES from Y10.

Desired Criteria

  • Qualifications and/or experience in other racket sports (badminton, squash & fives).
  • Qualifications and/or experience in invasion sports.
  • Minibus qualified (MIDAS) or willingness to do so.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Playing and or coaching rackets at a high level.

Essential Criteria

  • LTA Level 2 or above with similar qualifications, or working towards, in badminton & squash.
  • A wide experience of teaching and coaching rackets in both participation and performance.
  • Be an approachable team leader with an ability to inspire others to work collaboratively.
  • Be punctual, organised and efficient and strong at the deployment of resource effectively.
  • High level communication skills.
  • Sets and maintains high standards in all aspects of the role and personal presentation.
  • Inspires others to have confidence through sharing personal knowledge and experience.
  • Has a vision for rackets at Stamford and can clearly identify the steps and tools required to achieve it.
  • Ability to promote and foster team work leading and supporting other teachers, coaches & volunteers.

This is a term-time only position that attracts an annual salary of £35,000 (actual for term-time only). Saturday fixtures are an expectation for this role.
