Job overview

Head of Science

Required for April 2025 – MPS/UPS Inner London Scale plus TLR 1(b)

“This is an outstanding school”. Ofsted March 2019.

The Governors of this highly successful and over-subscribed mixed 11-18 Specialist Science College are seeking to appoint a highly motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic leader to our Science Department. The successful candidate will be a person who is excited about the opportunity to share their passion for Science and has experience of teaching in a British secondary school.

St Gregory’s has been identified by OFSTED in March 2019 as an outstanding school in all areas of its practice; by the DfE as a National Lead Behaviour School and by the SSAT as a High Attaining School.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate initiative and will have the energy and skills to inspire colleagues with their passion for their subject and inspire learning across the curriculum. You will be an effective team player with the focus to ensure successful outcomes within the department. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious teacher to join a fully resourced, forward thinking and successful department of specialist subject teachers who are committed to high standards of achievement at all levels.

Science is a very successful subject at St Gregory’s with a Physics Progress 8 score in 2024 of +1.37 (school performance tables). The school is firmly committed to CPD and promotes opportunities for improving subject knowledge and pedagogy as well as career development within the school.

Effective safeguarding, data protection and promoting the welfare of pupils is our upmost priority. Shortlisted candidates will be subject to online searches in line with the latest Keeping Children Safe in Education guidance. References will be sought and the successful candidate will be required to undertake an enhanced DBS check. A respect for the Catholic ethos of the school is essential.

Our application pack can be accessed here. We would be delighted to welcome interested candidates to book an appointment to visit our school and meet with our staff and pupils; please contact Ms Catherine Meah – PA to the Headteacher on 020 8907 8828 or at cmeah@stgregorys.harrow.sch.uk if you would like to arrange a tour.

The closing date for receipt of completed application forms is midday on Tuesday 7th January 2025 with interviews to be held shortly thereafter.
