We are looking to appoint an inspirational Head of Department to lead our amazing Science team.

Outwood Academy Ormesby can be found in the town of Middlesbrough in the north-east of England. Our goal is to continuously improve and become a leading academy in the region.

At our academy, we have highly trained staff and effective safeguarding measures in place to support all staff members. Additionally, the SLT and staff work together effectively to ensure that all students are actively engaged in their education.

About the Role:

Outwood Academy Ormesby is looking for someone who is not only a great teacher with a passion for science education, but can lead and develop a team of committed colleagues in providing the best possible outcomes for our students. An excellent knowledge and understanding of the subject is essential, as is the ability to further develop quality first teaching though a strong curriculum model. This is a fantastic opportunity for a well-qualified, driven professional, who is an outstanding classroom practitioner, to join our Family of Schools. You will be an inspiring leader with the energy and creativity to lead and motivate a team. You must possess the skills and determination to make a significant difference to the lives of our students and share our single goal of ‘students first’.

We offer an exciting opportunity to lead a team of 7 teachers, a small group tutor and 1 technician across and age range of 11-16. You will have leadership experience, be determined and driven and have the ability to transform student’s lives. You will work alongside a fantastic team to continue to achieve the highest possible outcomes for students irrespective of their backgrounds or starting points.  

The role of Head of Science at Outwood Academy Ormesby would be ideal for either an experienced Head of Department or someone looking to make that next step. You will be supported extensively by a team of Science Directors allowing you to strategically lead the department, whilst having the support and advice from the Director team. This is a great opportunity for the right candidate to lead a progressive department and be pivotal in shaping their journey to world class. You will be supported within the department by a 2nd in Science.

The department is now in a position of being fully staffed with all specialisms, it needs a leader who can look to improve outcomes. Hence this is a critical appointment for the Academy and is an exciting opportunity for you to move your career onto the next stage.

We have a wealth of knowledge in the department and an array of 7 specialist teachers who are always willing to share their knowledge and support each other. Levelling up payment: £3000-6000 per annum until 31 August 2025 for chemistry and physics teachers (Application required - more information can be found here)
