We are seeking a dedicated and experienced educator to join our team as the Head of Science - Secondary, specialising in either Physics or Chemistry for August 2025. This is a dynamic role that combines teaching with leadership responsibilities, focused on driving high academic standards and fostering an engaging, inclusive, and progressive learning environment aligned with our school's mission and values.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree as subject qualification in either Chemistry or Physics is essential. 
  • Fully qualified teacher holding BEd, MEd, PGCE, QTS or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in Key Stage 3-5 as a Science Teacher.
  • Experienced in leading key areas of school improvement in a Middle Leadership capacity and can demonstrate subsequent impact.
  • Committed professionals who are dedicated to raising standards in alignment with the school’s vision, mission and values.  
  • Teachers and leaders with secure knowledge of the National Curriculum for England.
  • Outstanding practitioners with the ability to establish innovative practice in the classroom. 
  • Have a natural desire to learn, contribute to and participate in the Arcadia Professional Learning Community.
  • Skilled at using digital tools to ensure that learning is enriched and relevant to complement the schools ‘Apple Distinguished School’ status.
  • A professional who works collaboratively both within the immediate team and across the wider school community. 
  • A robust and resilient personality able to work collaboratively or independently.
  • The ability to work and lead under pressure and to tight deadlines.

  • Lead and oversee the science department, setting standards for planning, outcomes, and teaching quality.
  • Deliver an inspiring and rigorous curriculum that meets individual student needs and promotes high achievement.
  • Model outstanding teaching practice and uphold professional standards within the department and school community.
  • Develop and support a collaborative, positive culture that encourages academic and personal growth for all students.
  • Utilise digital tools to enrich learning, supporting the school’s Apple Distinguished School status.
  • Monitor and analyse student progress and adapt strategies to improve learning outcomes.
  • Manage departmental resources effectively, demonstrating financial acuity and ensuring efficient budget use.
