The Glasgow Academy seeks to appoint an outstanding individual for the position of Head of Senior School.
The Academy is a highly successful independent, co-educational day school located in the West of Scotland. Founded in 1845, it is the oldest, continuously fully independent school in Glasgow.
It educates pupils aged 3 to 18 across Nursery, Prep and Senior Schools. The Academy currently has around 1680 pupils, including 849 in the Prep School and 831 in the Senior School.
The Academy operates within a competitive marketplace containing leading state and independent schools. The school offers first-class teaching and learning experiences on well-resourced campuses which leads to excellence in SQA examination outcomes, pupil wellbeing and co-curricular programme.
Following impressive examination results, The Academy topped The Times’ league table for national academic rankings in 2023 for all Scottish exam qualifications. The new Head of Senior School will inherit a sector-leading independent senior school, with a strong pioneering culture and you will have the personal drive to create your own legacy of excellence, developing the Senior School for the next generation.

The person will lead with a high degree of authenticity to establish meaningful relationships with pupils, parents, staff, Governors, former pupils and our wider community.
The new Head of Senior School will play a major role on the Senior Leadership Team, supporting the Rector, Deputy Rector and Board of Governors in leading The Glasgow Academy strategically. You will provide visionary leadership and will demonstrate exemplary management skills in the day to day running of the Senior School.

The Glasgow Academy is an ambitious, warm, welcoming, thriving and forward-thinking fully co-educational HMC independent day school of around 1600 pupils aged 3-18. It is highly popular, growing in a planned way over the last 14 years. It consists of the Senior School, of around 800 pupils of 11-18 years of age, and a Preparatory School (which has three sites and also around 800 children, counting all those in Nursery/Kindergarten).
The school gains excellent SQA exam results, and raising academic results further is the central target of its School Improvement Plan. Our performance in SQA exams is consistently amongst the best at independent schools and, for example, in August 2024 73% of Highers in S5 were awarded a grade A, and 96% of the Highers sat were passed. In August 2024, also achieved our best ever performance at National 5 with a pass rate of 99% ( 86% awarded A grades). In S6, our pass rate is 92% for Advanced Higher with 51% of entries awarded grade A.

The school's latest £15 million new building won Best Building in Scotland 2016, the UK's richest architectural prize. The school has invested around £27 million in its facilities over the last decade or so and continues to invest heavily and strategically.
