Holmer Green is a popular 11 to 18 school with 1200 students (170+ in the Sixth Form) and is expanding. As a school we are in the top 10% of schools nationally for KS4 progress and in the top 5% of schools nationally for KS5 progress. The school has a range of newly built modern facilities, including a purpose built English and Maths block, new cafeteria and fitness suite.
We can offer 8 staff training days (not the 5 you find in most schools), a two-week October half term, professional development of a high standard. We take our staff well-being seriously and offer weekly activities, like team sports.
Holmer Green Senior School is offering an exceptional opportunity to lead our Social Sciences Department, currently incorporating Sociology and Psychology, and which has high uptake of students at GCSE and A Level.
We are looking for a passionate person who is enthusiastic about leading the department and has a specialism in teaching KS5 Sociology. You would be ambitious for our students and community, support our inclusive ethos and welcome the chance to flourish in an outstanding area. The teaching timetable will include teaching across all key stages.
The Head of Department would look to continue to develop the department into an area of excellence, by bringing the subject area to life and promoting it beyond the classroom through enrichment activities. The Head of Department will form part the middle leadership team and will contribute to whole school CPD and peer coaching programmes.

Creativity
Our current staff sing our praises always. See what they particularly like below:
- Staff are trusted to use their professional judgement in planning, delivering and assessing lessons. There are high expectations of the conduct of students and staff. It is a supportive school with staff who are willing to help each other.
- The students at HGSS are committed to getting a good education. They work hard and want to do well. They are a pleasure to teach.
- I get up in the morning and look forward to coming to work. No two days are the same but every day is a pleasurable challenge. I think the new Headteacher has amazing qualities and it is obvious that he cares about his staff and his students.
- In comparison to other schools I have worked at, the “team” is so supportive, welcoming and friendly – it makes such a difference. The Headteacher and all SLT members are approachable and treat me as valuable member of their team.
