Job overview

Hallmoor School is an inclusive, forward-thinking and popular specialist school for pupils aged 5 to 19 years with a range of diagnosis including Learning Difficulties, Autism and Complex Needs. The number on roll has increased to almost 300 children in recent years with further growth expected. The school has been through significant change and improvement in recent years culminating in it being graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted in December 2023. There are exciting possibilities for the future, which can only be delivered by an exceptional Headteacher.

The school is part of Forward Education Trust and is looking for a new Headteacher who is excited about the next stage of development, building on its success and continuing its positive journey to excellence. You will play a critical role in driving the school forwards by working with and developing a talented group of senior & middle leaders and a dedicated, caring staff team. The school is supported by a wide multi-disciplinary team, which includes speech & language therapists and occupational therapists to ensure that pupils access therapeutic interventions, a Family Support Worker and a Counsellor who contribute to support for families and carers.

Forward Education Trust is an established and developing MAT of 7 special schools in Birmingham, Solihull and Sandwell. The Trust believes that its staff and leaders are its most important asset and that valuing them and utilising their many talents will deliver the best experiences for pupils. You will be empowered to make decisions and to be creative. You will join supportive and well-established collaborative networks, where colleagues support each other, and learn from each other. The Trust will have a real interest in your future and will be keen to explore ways that you can develop personally and professionally.

The successful candidate will be an exemplary leader, teacher and role model with leadership experience of working in special education. Experience of teaching pupils with complex learning difficulties and of having worked with different age groups would be useful and you must be ambitious for all learners, whatever their additional needs. You must have the ability to initiate and lead change in a positive way which makes a real difference to learning and above all, share the school’s commitment to ensuring the students are safe and happy and achieve their full potential. Working in a supported Trust environment must be central to your thinking, receiving and giving capacity to the wider network of schools.
