TEACHING POSITION: Hospital Teacher with a specialism in Secondary Mathematics

Part Time (0.4 or 0.6 FTE / 2 or 3 days per week)

Based at: Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) School

The Helix Education Centre consists of a Primary and Secondary Pupil Referral Unit, a Hospital School at the RNOH, a Home Tuition Service and an outreach Inclusion Support Team.

The Hospital School supports 5-16 year old paediatric patients to continue their education during a long stay or rehabilitation admission. The majority of teaching is 1:1 or occasionally in pairs of students. The appointed teacher would teach exclusively in the Hospital School.

The ideal candidate will be a very experienced and motivated Secondary Mathematics teacher. A knowledge of wider National Curriculum subjects and all key stages, including primary, will be needed as we teach all ages and subjects. Supporting the child with engagement for learning, wellbeing and pastoral care is another important aspect of our work with pupils, along with effective reintegration back into their home school following discharge.

We require an inspirational teacher who:

  • is passionate about learning and teaching pupils;
  • can teach Mathematics, to GCSE and beyond
  • can motivate and engage pupils in learning;
  • has proven good or better teaching across the curriculum;
  • has experience of helping pupils overcome barriers to learning;
  • is committed to working in partnership with pupils, parents, staff and other professionals;
  • can work well in a small team and show initiative;
  • demonstrates resilience and positivity in a hospital setting
