About Inclusion Education  

Inclusion Education (working name of “Inclusion Hampshire”) supports young people within the local community who have special education (SEN) and mental health needs. It operates an Independent Special School in Basingstoke for young people aged 11-16, a college based in Hook for young people aged 16 and over and a Workplace Support Hub based in Basingstoke supporting those over the age of 18.

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Support Worker at Inclusion College. The successful candidate will provide tailored support to students with SEN, helping them navigate their academic journey, develop essential skills, and promote their overall well-being. 

You will be part of a close, supportive team working to teach and develop young people who have struggled to access education due to the mental ill health, anxiety and difficulties attending school through empathy, nurture, and patience.

Key Responsibilities 

Student Support:  

  • Key worker: for pastoral support for a small number of students  
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support to students with SEN
  • Assist students with academic work, including organizing study materials, note-taking, and understanding course content. 
  • Develop and implement individualised support plans based on each student's unique needs and goals. 


Emotional & Behaviour Support: 

  • Offer emotional support and mentoring to students, helping them develop coping strategies and resilience. 
  • Promote the Inclusion ethos, values, and positive behaviour. 
  • Dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encouraging learners to take responsibility and reflect on their own behaviour. 
  • Promote wellbeing through practical, timely and appropriate interventions. 
  • Facilitate social skills development and peer interactions. 


Monitoring and Reporting: 

  • Monitor and record student progress, maintaining accurate and confidential records. 
  • Provide regular feedback to tutors, teachers. students, parents, on progress and areas needing improvement. 
  • Assist in preparing reports and documentation required for assessments and reviews. 

Collaboration:  

  • Support a multidisciplinary team, including tutors, teachers, other support workers, therapists, and external agencies, to ensure a cohesive approach to each student's education and wellbeing. 

Professional Development: 

  • Stay current with best practices and developments in SEND and SEMH education through continuous professional development and training. 

Safeguarding:  

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of all students by adhering to college safeguarding policies and procedures. 


Skills, Experience & Qualification Requirements  

Essential: 

  • Minimum Level 2 Functional Skills - Maths and English  
  • Experience working with SEND  
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents. 
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills. 
  • Patience, empathy, and a non-judgmental approach to support. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills 
  • Knowledge of applying safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures and promoting the welfare of the young people and a good understanding of best practices in SEND support. 
  • A good standard of verbal and written communication  
  • IT Skills- Microsoft Office 365 beneficial  

Desirable: 

  • Additional qualifications or training in SEND education  
  • Experience in an education setting.  
  • Experience in working with teenagers with SEN
  • Experience in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies
