About Inclusion Education  

Inclusion Education (working name of “Inclusion Hampshire”) supports young people within the local community who have special education (SEN) and mental health needs. It operates an Independent Special School in Basingstoke for young people aged 11-16, a college based in Hook for young people aged 16 and over and a Workplace Support Hub based in Basingstoke supporting those over the age of 18.

Working as a Tutor at Inclusion College you will be part of a close, supportive team working to teach and develop young people who have struggled to access education due to the mental ill health, anxiety and difficulties attending college through empathy, nurture, and patience. We currently have an exciting opportunity for a passionate, dedicated and tutor. Key Responsibilities 

  • Key Worker: Responsibility for pastoral care of a group of students  
  • Individualised Instruction: Deliver personalised learning plans that address the specific needs and abilities of students with SEND Requirements – supported by resources and schemes of work 
  • Functional skills English and Maths, Personal Development, Vocational Options Entry Level to Level 2. 
  • There will be opportunities to share and pursue a professional area of interest, eg Computing, Hospitality, Creative Arts, or a recognised industry skill. 
  • Delivery: Delivery lessons based on schemes of work and compiling student evidence folders for accreditation 
  • Support and Mentoring: Provide emotional and academic support, mentoring students to build confidence, resilience, and independence in their learning journey working in small groups and 1-1. 
  • Assessment and Monitoring: Conduct regular assessments to monitor student progress, maintaining detailed records, marking work, and adjusting teaching methods, as necessary. 
  • Collaboration: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including other tutors, teachers, support workers, therapists, and external agencies, to ensure a cohesive approach to each student's education. 
  • Parental Involvement: Engage with parents and guardians, providing regular updates on student progress and involving them in the educational process. 
  • Professional Development: Stay current with best practices and developments in SEND education through continuous professional development and training. 
  • Safeguarding: Ensure the safety and well-being of all students by adhering to college safeguarding policies and procedures. 


Skills, Experience & Qualification Requirements  

Essential: 

  • A nationally accepted qualification to teach in the lifelong learning sector at Level 3 
  • Experience working with students with SEND needs and prioritising positive professional relationships 
  • Strong understanding of SEND and strategies and interventions or professional interest 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Knowledge of applying safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures and promoting the welfare of the young people 
  • Ability to record case notes accurately and clearly with a good standard of writing and IT skills 
  • Experience and ability to use IT particularly Microsoft Office 365 
  • Ability to use initiative and think creatively about problems, positively engage with all aspects of the college 

Desirable: 

  • A nationally accepted qualification to teach in the lifelong learning sector at Level 4 teaching qualification  
  • A willingness to work towards a Level 5 teaching qualification 
  • Experience in a secondary or further education (FE) settings 
  • Experience in collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies e.g. Social Care, SEN and Local Authority agencies
