Job overview

We are seeking to appoint a professional, enthusiastic and hardworking Information Services Officer to join our College Information Service Team.

You will join us on a salary of £34,391 - £35,451 per annum, plus excellent benefits!

The College Information Service (CIS) aims to be the management tool that facilitates the collection, storage and distribution of information across the college. The aim of the department is to provide all the stakeholders in the college community with the information each person requires to do their job and achieve the college’s corporate strategic aims and objectives. The department is continually striving to make improvements to all its systems and processes in order to make positive contributions towards helping the college fulfil its mission and ethos.

CIS use a bespoke MI system built on a SQL Server and rely on the creativity and skills of college staff to develop and maintain its software and protocols.

The department, together with the college’s software development team, continually reflects on, reviews and updates the software it uses in response to the needs of its stakeholders and external requirements. The department supports a wide range of college functions: Admissions, Examinations, Progress Tutors, Timetabling, Careers, University Centre, Finance, Pastoral and Curriculum service. The CIS department also has overall responsibility for the input and accuracy of data in the college database systems, and for developing systems to ensure data held is valid and accurate. The CIS department handles a large number of both internal and external data and reporting requests and plays the key role in ensuring the college meets the requirements of its annual funding returns.

The current roles within the department are College Information Manager and Registrar of Student Records. The department continues to adjust to the changing needs of the college stakeholders and to facilitate this the staff of the department work both collaboratively and flexibly with each other and across the college. The purpose of the role is to assist the College Information Manager in the management, development and use of the Information service across the college. This will include a range of data related tasks including analysis, design and administration and the preparing and monitoring of the data needed for statutory returns and external stakeholders. The post holder will work alongside the College Information Manager, members of the CIS team and other staff who are involved in the development of reports and the development of the colleges bespoke MI system. There will be a requirement to undertake both technical and data management tasks to support the work of the college information team. The post holder will also make significant contributions to projects to implement new systems, reports and other functionality as needed. Other responsibilities include advising staff on information system matters, the investigation and analysis of business issues and dealing with ad hoc requests for data.

This role would suit someone with high level IT skills wishing to develop further a career in education information management and/or business intelligence. If you feel your skills don’t fit the person specification but that can demonstrate the capacity to develop then feel free to contact the college and arrange a discussion.
