Job overview

This is an exciting new role in a rapidly growing trust of 7 schools currently, including 3 secondary and 4 primary schools. The successful candidate will be based at The Skipton Academy but will need to be able to travel between Trust schools.

Our overriding aim at Moorlands Learning Trust is to provide an exceptional comprehensive education for students from all cohorts and demographic backgrounds, in order to ensure that individual context does not affect a student’s life chances. At MLT we are aspirational for every student within the Trust and are committed to achieving success and inspiring others to do so too.

We highly value our staff as our biggest asset and invest in their professional development to keep ourselves at the cutting edge of educational development, with staff wellbeing also being extremely important and strategically planned for.

This is an exciting time in the Trust’s development as MLT looks to grow further, so that we can play a wider role in the development of our region and its future generations. This will mean that as the Trust grows over the coming years, the range of professional and career development opportunities and pathways for colleagues in our Trust schools will also grow, so that we can continue to recruit and retain an exceptional workforce.

Our vision for SEND across the Trust is to ensure that SEND is central to all we do, with SEND experts across schools who are well-supported to share their expertise through training, CPD and support for colleagues. The successful applicant will be pivotal in supporting the SEND team in ensuring that best practice is shared and communicated, as well as supporting with EHCP reviews, funding and other administrative processes.

The Skipton Academy is a mixed, mainstream, secondary state school in North Yorkshire. Located in Skipton, it caters to students aged 11 to 16 and can accommodate up to 835 pupils at full capacity.

The Skipton Academy started as a community school called Aireville School, administered by the North Yorkshire County Council. It converted to an academy in September 2014 and has a comprehensive admissions policy.

Vision and values

The Skipton Academy’s main aims are: to challenge each child to be the best they can be; to ensure children are safe and supported; and to teach them to love learning. The school wants to become an outstanding academy by 2020. Teachers aim to ensure all lessons bring out the best in each individual, challenging and encouraging all students to be independent learners. They strive to provide a curriculum that covers what pupils will need once they are in the world of work.

The secondary school aims to ensure all pupils and staff are caring and respectful of themselves and one another. It offers a wide range of extra-curricular and cultural activities, while enrichment activities include everything from a pantomime rewards trip to a Learn2Earn activity day.

The curriculum prioritises the core subjects of English, maths, RE and PE. All students must also choose to study French, geography or history. Other subjects are available, such as computer science, engineering, health and social care, drama and business studies.
