Job overview
We are actively seeking an enthusiastic Secondary School Teacher specializing in Individuals and Societies in the MYP (Middle Years Programme) of the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum with experience teaching Business Management in the DP (Diploma Program).
The right candidate will also recognise that excellent pastoral care is also essential to student development, and be willing to support this in non-curricular roles such as homeroom teacher or during self directed learning times as an advisor or coach.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver MYP Integrated Individuals & Societies lessons using active learning strategies that promote inquiry-based learning.
- Foster a dynamic and inclusive learning environment that promotes curiosity and critical thinking.
- Assess student progress using the I&S criterion and Integrated eAssessment approach, and provide constructive feedback to students on their development.
- Collaborate with colleagues to design interdisciplinary projects and activities.
- Teach IB Diploma Programme Business Management, with a thorough understanding of the DP syllabus and exam preparation.
- Design assessments in line with IB standards and provide constructive feedback to support student progress.
- Foster an engaging, inclusive, and collaborative classroom environment.
- Use a variety of instructional methods to support students with different learning styles.
- Monitor and report on students’ progress, including preparation for MYP eAssessments and DP final exams.
- Collaborate with colleagues in the Individuals & Societies and Business departments, contributing to interdisciplinary projects and school-wide initiatives.
- Engage in extra-curricular activities and school events as part of the broader school community.
- Manage classroom behavior to ensure an effective learning environment for all students
- Support students proactively in reaching their learning and approaches to learning goals
- To regularly measure, record and share student progress
- Be familiar with data regarding the academic and pastoral progress of their students
- Provide Subject Coordinators with class data
- Plan in Managebac
- Be familiar with school policies and support and promote the school’s ethos
- Be available outside of lessons to support students
- Participate actively in school events, parent-teacher conferences, and professional development activities.
- Engage students in the effective delivery of the curriculum through excellent subject knowledge and diverse lesson content that reflects the ability and needs of all students in the class
- Be an active participant of the Humanities Department and plan and execute events and workshops for students that support the school's strategic goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, History, Geography, Business, Economics, etc. Master’s degree is advantageous.
- Teaching certification with a focus on the Humanities and knowledge of the MYP and DP (IB) curriculum.
- Minimum 2 years proven experience in teaching secondary school Humanities, Business, and Societal Studies.
- In-depth knowledge of the International Baccalaureate curriculum and assessment practices.
- Experience working in international schools.
- Experience with MYP eAssessment and preparing students for DP exams.

- Participate in and lead committee work which contributes to the achievement of the school’s goals.
- Perform any other reasonable duties requested by the Principal or Head of Section.

About Cologne International School
Cologne International School is a private, IB-accredited International School for currently about 500 students aged 5-18 (grades 1-12).
The school was founded in 2007 as a multicultural, interdisciplinary and inclusive school serving the international as well as the local community of Cologne.
In the Bilingual Primary School (grades 1-5) the learning objectives of the North Rhine Westphalian German state curriculum (NRW) are combined with the curriculum of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP).
Grades 6-12 follow the IB MYP and DP, with one legacy IGCSE class. Students study fully in English, with German offered as a core subject. We offer a broad and balanced curriculum, and are currently focussing on ethically developing the role of AI, both in the classroom and in the wider school.
The school offers a wide range of extra curricular activities, with a particular focus on music, sport and technology.
