Job overview

We are seeking to appoint an inspirational and committed Pastoral Mentor to join our team, 37 weeks per year (term time only), 8.30am to 4.30pm. Working under the line management of the Pastoral Manager, the post holder will support in leading the management, coordination and implementation of school wide and individual positive behaviour management strategies. 

Main duties and responsibilities:

1.   To support the school's vision of pastoral support.

2.   To maintain high visibility with students, staff and parents/carers, e.g. attend Assemblies and Form time Parents Evenings.

3.   To be a point of contact for students and staff when issues arise.

4.   To maintain contact with families/carers of students; to keep them informed of the student’s needs and progress, and to secure positive family support and involvement.

5.   To be part of the On Call rota that manages the withdrawal room.

6.   To work closely with the SENDCO, safeguarding teams and the members of staff responsible for the most able provision, to ensure that the needs of all students and those with special education, social and EAL needs are met.

7.   To provide mentoring and coaching at an individual and small group level.

8.   To develop a full knowledge and appreciation of the range of activities, courses, opportunities, organisations and individuals that could be drawn upon to provide extra support for students. This will include: - Working with students and their families. - Working with form tutors, subject teachers, Heads of Year, administrative staff, senior managers, and the Special Needs Department. - Working with outside agencies such as Social Services, the Police and EWS.

9.   Monitoring students’ behaviour; using a range of interventions when it falls below the standards accepted by the academy or disturbs the education of others.

10. Rewarding student success in a variety of different ways for those students who make significant progress in terms of educational achievement or improvements in behaviour.

11. To undertake other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time commensurate with the grade and seniority of the post.

12. To carry out duties in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act, adopting safer working practice, in accordance with the safety policy.

13. To ensure, with appropriate administrative support, that students’ records are kept up to date, using these to provide information on students.

In addition to the ability to perform the duties of the post, issues relating to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children will need to be demonstrated these will include:

•      Motivation to work with children and young people.

•      Ability to form and maintain appropriate relationships and personal boundaries with children and young people.

•      Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours.

•      Attitudes to use of authority and maintaining discipline. 

Hampton High was judged “good” by Ofsted in 2019 and has been oversubscribed for the past three years.
