Job Summary:

We are seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Performing Arts Technician to join our team. This role is vital in ensuring the seamless operation of all technical aspects within the Performing Arts Department, including lighting, sound, and stage equipment. The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Performing Arts and Head of Music to support all school events, productions, and performances.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Equipment Maintenance and Management:
  • Oversee and maintain all theatre and performing arts equipment, ensuring all lighting, sound, and AV systems are in excellent working order.
  • Regularly inspect, test, and service equipment to ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Manage inventory, repair, or replace equipment as needed.
  • Event and Production Support:
  • Set up and operate lighting, sound, and AV systems for school performances, as well as regular lessons.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Music and the Performing Arts team to ensure technical aspects of performances are well-coordinated.
  • Support rehearsals, ensuring that all technical requirements are met, and troubleshooting any issues that arise.
  • Work on live sound mixing and lighting design for productions as required.
  • General Technical Support:
  • Provide technical support and training for staff and students on the use of performing arts equipment.
  • Ensure all performances and events run smoothly from a technical standpoint, including pre-event setup, event management, and post-event breakdown.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of new technical systems and improvements within the department.
  • Health and Safety:
  • Ensure all technical operations adhere to the school’s health and safety policies.
  • Conduct risk assessments for productions and ensure the safe use of equipment by staff and students.
  • Keep accurate records of all maintenance, inspections, and incidents related to technical equipment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Proven experience in technical theatre, sound engineering, or stage management.
  • Proficiency with lighting consoles, sound desks, AV systems, and other technical equipment.
  • Strong understanding of stagecraft, live sound production, and lighting design.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues efficiently, especially under pressure during live events.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations in a theatre or school setting is desirable.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teaching staff, students, and external contractors.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A proactive, problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently.

Desirable:

  • Experience working in an educational environment.
  • First aid or relevant safety certifications.
  • IT literacy, particularly with software related to lighting, sound, or AV control.
