Sedbergh School Vietnam (SSV) is a bilingual international boarding school. We have a very close working relationship with Sedbergh School UK and aim to deliver an exciting and holistic education for both Vietnamese nationals and foreign students in District 7 of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. SSV was previously the Bilingual Canadian International School (BCIS) and part of the EQuest Education Group. We share an exciting urban campus with the Canadian International School, with access to outstanding facilities for sports and performance, in addition to dedicated spaces for STEM teaching and a group commitment to exploring innovative educational methodologies, including the use of AI. Building on the excellent reputation of Sedbergh UK with 500 years of history and boarding experience, we offer an exciting approach to the delivery of the Vietnamese National Curriculum in addition to an emerging Cambridge Curriculum including IGCSE and A Level programmes. We currently have over 1400 students from Nursery to Year 13 and approximately 200 support and teaching staff making Sedbergh Vietnam a busy school with a number of exciting challenges ahead as we expand. The role:

● Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging PE lessons aligned with:

- Cambridge Lower Secondary Physical Education

- Cambridge IGCSE Physical Education (0413)

- Cambridge International AS & A Level Physical Education (9396)

● Develop and implement comprehensive schemes of work that cover all required practical skills, theoretical knowledge, and health and fitness concepts for each level.

● Create a positive and inclusive environment that encourages all students to participate in physical activities and develop their skills, regardless of their initial abilities.

● Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to cater to different learning styles and physical abilities, including practical demonstrations, video analysis, and classroom-based theory lessons.

● Guide students through skill development and theoretical understanding, adapting approaches to suit the level:

- Focus on fundamental motor skills and introduction to various sports in Lower Secondary

- Develop more advanced skills, tactics, and understanding of health and fitness in IGCSE

- Foster sophisticated analysis of performance, sports psychology, and exercise physiology at A Level

● Ensure safe practices in all physical activities, including proper use of equipment and facilities.

● Prepare students for Cambridge examinations at each level, including guidance on practical assessments, theoretical exams, and coursework.

● Assess and monitor student progress regularly, using both formative and summative assessment techniques aligned with Cambridge standards for each level.

● Provide detailed and constructive feedback on students' practical performance and theoretical work.

● Organize and lead extracurricular sports activities, including intramural competitions and school teams for inter-school events.

● Communicate effectively with parents about student progress and well-being through regular meetings and reports.

● Collaborate with colleagues to promote cross-curricular links, particularly with sciences and psychology.

● Stay updated with current developments in physical education, sports science, and related pedagogical approaches.

● Participate in staff meetings, professional development sessions, and other school activities.

● Support older students in their university applications, particularly those pursuing sports science, physiotherapy, or related fields.

Requirements:

● Bachelor's degree in Physical Education/ Sports Science or a related field.

● Must have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)/ PGCE or other international equivalents.

● Minimum 5 years’ experience of teaching PE across secondary levels (11-18 years old).

● Minimum 2 years' experience of teaching the Cambridge Curriculum.

● Experience teaching in an international school setting and coaching qualifications in one or more sports is a preferable.

● In-depth knowledge of the Cambridge PE curriculum from Lower Secondary to A Level.

● Excellent understanding of assessment and examination requirements for Cambridge PE qualifications.

● Strong practical skills in a range of sports and physical activities.

● Current First Aid and CPR certification.

● Experience in organizing large-scale sporting events or competitions is a plus.

● Excellent classroom management skills.

● Passionate about physical education and promoting healthy lifestyles.

● Ability to inspire and motivate students of all abilities to engage in physical activities.

● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

● Patient and encouraging, with the ability to build students' confidence.

● Creative and innovative in approach to teaching PE, particularly in engaging less athletic students.

● Adaptable and able to tailor teaching methods to different age groups and physical abilities.

● Committed to ongoing professional development in PE and sports science.

● Strong commitment to student safety and wellbeing.

● Enthusiasm for promoting sportsmanship and fair play

● Respect for all members of a school community, irrespective of position, gender, age and ethnic background.

● A positive and solution-focused attitude to working life.

● Cultural sensitivity and global mindset

● Acceptable police checks (or equivalent) from the country of origin and from all other countries in which the applicant has worked and no question regarding suitability to work with children.

● Appropriate references from current and previous employer, corroborated by personal phone calls.
