Job overview

The Vice Preschool Principal will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the school and in ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.

He/she will provide leadership of all aspects related to teaching and learning and ensures the ongoing development of the school in line with the designated priorities as established by the Board.

The Vice-Principal will play a key role in shaping a positive school culture, supporting staff development, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality early childhood education.


Main responsibilities and duties: 

1) Educational Leadership:

  • Support the development and implementation of the curriculum.
  • Monitor and evaluate teaching methods and classroom activities.
  • Facilitate professional development for teachers and staff.
  • Promote the use of innovative and effective teaching practices.
  • Work with the faculty to develop and implement the Preschool curriculum and create an environment for academic success.
  • Develop an effective school timetable which meets the needs of Preschool students within the statutory frameworks and the resources available.
  • Promote and support all applicable school policies as they relate to teaching and learning and day to day school operations.
  • Contribute to marketing and student retention strategies in Preschool and grow the school in line with the targets established by the Board.

2) Student Support:

  • Assist in student admissions and enrollment processes.
  • Address and resolve student behavioural issues.
  • Foster a safe and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with parents and guardians to support student development.
  • Work collaboratively with parents to build a climate of trust, support, and a strong home-to-school and school-to-home partnership.


3) Staff Supervision:

  • Assist in the recruitment, hiring, and training of staff.
  • Mentor and support teachers in their professional growth.
  • Coordinate staff meetings and professional development sessions.
  • Be actively involved in the appraisal process and provide informed feedback on teacher growth, performance, and development.

3) Community Engagement:

  • Act as a liaison between the school and the broader community.
  • Work collaboratively with parents to build a climate of trust, support and a strong home to school and school to home partnership.
  • Promote the school’s mission and values to parents and community members.
  • Work as a team to organise and participate in school events and activities.
  • Develop partnerships with local organisations and businesses.
  • Contribute to the development of the school as a center of learning within the community, strengthening partnerships with other schools, agencies, and service providers.
  • Operational Management:
  • Assist in the development and management of the school budget for academic department.
  • Ensure the effective use of school resources and materials.
  • Part of the key management team to coordinate emergency response plans and safety drills.
  • Promote and support all applicable school policies as they relate to teaching and learning and day-to-day school operations.
  • Work with Operation Manager to ensure the maintenance and improvement of school facilities


4) Key Skills and Attributes:

  • Be fully supportive of the school's mission, vision and core values and ensure common understanding of these statements across all key constituencies.
  • Promote a culture of openness, shared values, teamwork, and collaboration through active and supportive leadership.
  • Be a good listener, an excellent communicator, and a visionary leader.
  • Be an outstanding practitioner with proven experience leading a team of educators and in managing the development of Preschool students.
  • Be an able communicator – both written and verbal – and able to motivate a team around a compelling vision.
  • Demonstrate passion, drive, enthusiasm, commitment, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Be a strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to leadership where required.


Qualifications and Experience.

  • A Bachelors’ degree and teacher certification is essential - Masters’ degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a leadership role and preferably in an international school setting.
  • A strong pedagogical background with a solid understanding of international programs at the Early Years.
  • Experience in the recruitment process and the ability to attract and retain highly able teachers.
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural environment
