We are seeking a highly committed and suitably qualified Class Teacher with STEM Subject Leader role to join our dedicated team in the Primary Section.

About St. Julian's School 

Founded in 1932, we are a highly successful, non-selective 3-18 British international school with a reputation for academic excellence. We currently have just over 1,200 students from over 60 different nationalities. The School has three sections: Primary (Pre-Prep and Prep), Secondary and Bilingual. The Primary Section has 480 pupils with three classes per year.

The School is led by a team that comprises the Head, two whole school Deputy Heads, Bursar, Principals for the three school sections, Director of Technology and Director of Professional Learning. 

We broadly follow the National Curriculum for England leading to IGCSEs and the IB Diploma Programme.

Google Apps for Education is used across the whole school as a learning and administration platform and all teaching staff are given their own MacBook Air.

We have been accredited by CIS (Council of International Schools) and NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) since 1998, we are an Accredited Member of COBIS and our Head is an International Member of HMC (Heads' Conference). 

The School is conveniently located within walking distance of Carcavelos train station, with direct access to central Lisbon and Cascais.

STEM Subject Leader

The STEM Subject Leader will inspire and engage our primary learners. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in STEM subjects and a commitment to delivering high-quality education through a creative, integrated and hands-on approach. You will be responsible for designing and implementing a stimulating STEM curriculum that aligns with the National Curriculum for England while catering to the unique needs of our international student community.

Learning

  • Facilitate and personalise learning across the curriculum, using tailored interventions and varied teaching strategies to inspire and support all pupils.
  • Design thoughtful lesson sequences and ongoing assessments to track and encourage pupil progress effectively.
  • Maintain up-to-date subject knowledge, leverage technology, and apply the latest pedagogical approaches to enrich pupil learning.

Wellbeing

  • To work with pastoral and safeguarding leaders and to ensure that pupil wellbeing is paramount.
  • Promote intercultural understanding and respect for diversity among all pupils.

Professional growth

  • To identify areas of potential growth each year and commit to developing oneself in this area.
  • To visit other classrooms to enable sharing of good practice.
  • To invite peers into classroom to enable sharing of good practice.

Person specification

Essentials

  • Be educated to degree level and possess a recognised teaching qualification.
  • Have at least three years' experience in the UK or other British international schools as a Primary Teacher.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the wider life of the school.
  • A strong background in STEM subjects and previous experience of designing and implementing a stimulating primary STEM curriculum that aligns with the National Curriculum for England.

The contract will initially be set for a duration of two years, with the possibility of transitioning to a permanent agreement upon mutual consent.

From Nursery (age 3+) to Year 11 (age 16+) St. Julian’s broadly follows the National Curriculum for England. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) embraces the two years of Nursery and Reception, ages three to five. Thereafter students progress through the Key Stages of the curriculum.

The Secondary section strives to nurture in each student a sense of self-confidence and happiness; students are encouraged to speak up for themselves and relationships between teachers and students are very positive, engaging and stimulating.
