Job overview

Primary Freelance Phonics Trainer

Role Summary

Pearson is looking for freelance educational trainers with extensive primary classroom teaching experience, specifically in teaching phonics, who are located in the following areas:

·         North West England

·         North East England

·         Bristol and surroundings

·         London

Trainers are required to deliver face-to-face and online phonics courses to individual schools using the materials produced by the Pearson Professional Development team. These materials include presenting online resources, so confidence in using online platforms is essential. This role would be perfect for anyone who is currently a supply teacher, a part-time teacher or who has recently left the classroom. In our experience this role would not work for those teachers who are still teaching full-time.

Qualifications and Experience Required

·         You are a fully qualified primary teacher with a minimum of 3 years teaching phonics at primary level.

·         Experience in a senior leadership role is beneficial.

·         Familiarity and experience using Pearson’s Bug Club Phonics SSP programme is desirable.

·         You have experience of delivering effective whole school training to colleagues in your school or other schools.

·         You are ICT literate and confident using a variety of ICT packages to support classroom pedagogy and practice.

·         You have a full, clean driving licence with business insurance.

With face-to-face bookings, every effort will be made to ensure training is within 2 hours from your home. Occasional further travel and very occasionally overnight stays may be required (reasonable expenses are paid).

Please note that this is a freelance contract. That means there is no certain number of hours guaranteed and there will be peaks and troughs throughout the year according to demand, with the busiest times being around school Inset days in April, July and September.

Key Accountabilities

·         Undertake comprehensive training to develop an in-depth understanding of Pearson PD materials

·         Liaise with the Pearson bookings team to confirm availability for training sessions

·         Manage your own time and travel arrangements

·         Carry out pre-course delivery preparation to ensure that all training sessions are delivered to a high standard and meet customer expectations

·         Present information in a way that is suited to the customer needs and environment

·         Reflect on your own delivery to promote best practice

·         Ensure admin tasks are completed on time

·         Handle any customer queries or complaints in a professional manner

Participate in ongoing training, as required
