Job overview

TISKL is looking for suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the role of Year Group Leader (YGL) in our primary school to lead a team of teachers and TAs and to contribute to the learning and teaching in that year group. Currently, each year group is 5 form entry and we welcome applications from teachers with a range of experiences from Primary as the age-group for the YGL has some flexibility. There is a small weekly teaching commitment with this role, but not overall responsibility for a class which gives our leaders the time to really lead and manage their year groups. Our school is a happy, hardworking community of educators who love what they do and continually look for ways to do even better. This role is ideal for teachers who are looking to step into leadership in a large school or for established middle leaders who would like to enjoy a new challenge and context.

We are looking for a leader who:

  • is an outstanding class teacher, passionate in developing high standards and striving for excellence
  • professional, friendly and kind
  • has excellent communication and interpersonal skills and knows how to build and maintain a successful team
  • has the ability to lead, motivate and inspire staff and children to achieve the highest standards
  • has experience of leading either a subject or year group
  • has a positive attitude to innovation and change, is resilient and enjoys new challenges
  • keeps up to date with the latest research in education and knows how to adapt and enhance it to suit their context
  • Is hard working and flexible and understands the challenges of working in a busy school
  • has a commitment to safeguarding and protecting the welfare of children and leading his/her team to do the same

This role offers an opportunity to the successful candidate to not only become completely immersed in the learning of students but also to have a central role in mentoring and coaching our Malaysian teachers and TAs in the year group. TISKL uses the International Primary Curriculum (IPC and IEYC) in conjunction with the National Curriculum for England and we are also successfully using White Rose Maths. Experience with these curriculums would be beneficial but not essential.

Our school offers an English curriculum with a Malaysian flavour, and is located in the centre of Kuala Lumpur, catering to students from Early Years through to Year 11. TISKL is part of Taylor’s Education Group, Malaysia’s premier private education group which operates Taylor’s International School in Puchong, together with Garden International School, and Nexus International Schools (in Malaysia and Singapore), The Australian International School in Malaysia, as well as Taylor’s University who we work closely with for training the next generation of teachers. With a current enrolment of over 1200 students encompassing over 40 different nationalities, we have a well-established, dedicated local staff and approximately 10% expat teachers. Our school brings together the very best of East and West!

Candidates should send a CV (max 2 pages, including the contact details of two referees), and a supporting letter (max 2 pages) to recruit@kl.tis.edu.my.

Please note that candidates should have a recognised teaching qualification, and at least 5 years’ teaching experience.
