Job overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic Receptionist with administrative duties to join our friendly team. You will assist the Director of Operations at Abbey College to deliver a high-quality reception and administrative services for our visitors, staff and students and provide a welcoming and efficient service to help ensure the smooth running of the college reception and wider Operations Team.

 

Abbey College Cambridge is one of the best sixth form colleges for international students in the UK. We specialise in helping students from across the world achieve the personal, social and academic growth needed to succeed at the UK’s best universities.

 

Your duties and responsibilities will include the following:

·      First point of contact for visitors

·      Answering the telephone and responding to queries

·      Checking college Admin and Reception emails, responding to general queries in a timely fashion

·      Opening post and distributing to staff and students

·      Sending post, ensuring that the franking machine is topped up with funds

·      Receiving and managing incoming deliveries

·      Take morning calls from students, and follow policy for dealing with student absence. 

·      First point of contact and diary management for students wishing to see the school matron

·      Taking card payments face-to-face and over the phone

  • Preparation for new student induction
  • Helping with school events

·      Place orders with suppliers on behalf of all areas of the college       

 

Qualifications and Experience

You will hold 5 GCSE’s or equivalent qualifications with English at level 4/5 (C), be competent in the use of ICT, particularly the use of MS Word, Outlook and Excel. Ideally you will have a working knowledge of record keeping and data protection. You will have excellent verbal and written English and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships. Previous experience working in an education or busy office environment is desirable.

 

Hours

37.5 hours per week, 8.00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Friday.

Checks and Training

• Enhanced DBS checks to ascertain successful candidates suitability to work with children will be carried out. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, and therefore all convictions, cautions and bindovers, including those regarded as ‘spent’ must be declared.

• Online searches will be carried out on candidates for any unsuitable content by or about candidates.

• Two written & verbal references from previous employers and a personal reference will be sought. Referees will be asked about candidates suitability to work with children and whether they know of any disciplinary offences relating to children or young persons and whether candidates have been the subject of any child protection allegations or concerns and if so the outcome of any enquiry or disciplinary procedure.

• Candidates full employment history will be checked, any significant gaps will require explanation and proof of any relevant qualifications will need to be provided.

• Successful candidates will be required to complete Child Protection Training via e-learning prior to commencing employment.

• Pre-employment health screening will also be carried out.
