Job overview
Contract: Fixed for one academic year
Hours: Average of 40 hours per week during term time
A varied and fulfilling role that offers invaluable experience of working in our busy PE Faculty assisting in the delivery of Sport/PE, assisting with the day-to-day running of a busy Faculty, planning and teaching of lessons, fixtures and co-curricular activities. The role will involve work in the Senior and Junior Schools, during the week and at weekends and also includes various boarding and school duties. We would expect the successful candidate to be a full member of the team and prepared to experience a role as a teacher of Physical Education. We have two positions available, one based in the Senior School and one in the Junior School. Your application can reflect a preference for a particular role.
This is an exciting opportunity for those in tune with our approach to education in search of gaining experience of working in a boarding and day school for one academic year, perhaps prior to embarking on a PGCE course or taking up a teaching position. Due to the boarding element of this role, it is a residential post, so we would expect the successful candidates to live in accommodation on site. The ability to coach either hockey, netball, rounders, rugby, football or cricket would be particularly welcome, but other sports will be considered.
Safeguarding: Sidcot School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with previous employers and a DBS Enhanced check.
Equal Opportunities: The School is fully committed to the principles of equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion. We are committed to attracting and retaining the best staff.

About Sidcot School
Sidcot School is a mixed, independent, all-through Quaker school and sixth form for pupils aged three to nineteen. It is located in Winscombe, Somerset, in south-west England, and has about 550 students on its roll.
The school can trace its history back to 1699, when it was founded by Quakers. However, it moved to its current site in 1808.
The school is a registered charity, and is administered by its governing body. At least half of these governors must be members of the Religious Society of Friends.

Values and vision
The school is established on strong Quaker values, and this remains a key part of its ethos today. It places a strong emphasis on mutual respect.
Quakers believe “in living life adventurously and letting their lives speak”. In practice, the school says, that means teaching in a way that encourages individual thought, questioning and exploration. The school also aims to ensure that pupils have all the support they need to grow as individuals, and recognise and celebrated their talents.
The school welcomes students of all faiths and none.

“Pupils are good learners, working together with others very successfully and thriving when teaching encourages them to employ their highly developed sense of personal responsibility in their learning.”
